I would have never guessed Samuel could be had for a 7th round pick
me neither! falcons got a steal, although his contract is expensive considering the corners already on the team. im just glad we dont have to see him 2 times a year anymore, he gets hella ints.

Uhhh good news but what the hell is Mike's deal? Why did he think there would ever be a robust market Gaffney? He's 31 and his best season ever was in our offense. If Mike never understood Gaffney is more valuable to the Redskins than he is to every other team he just....doesn't....get it.
When did he say there would be a robust market?

I know you aren't actively looking, but have you heard of any interest in Gaffney whatsoever?

This was a while ago, although now that I think about it, it was more of a speculation....

Still $6 million + per year is a lot for most teams cap-wise. I guess I'm not too surprised there wasn't more demand for Samuel's services.
Fist off, I'm quite sure that Samuels was using his contract negotiations as to steer where he wanted to go. If he didn't want to go to a particular team, he refused to rework the deal. If he did, he would rework it.
That said, here is a glimpse of why his value wasn't there.
Marcus Hayes: In Samuel trade, Birds toss a no-hitter (http://www.philly.com/philly/sports/eagles/20120426_Marcus_Hayes__In_Samuel_trade__Birds_toss _a_no-hitter.html)
The Eagles thought they had solved their secondary problems for the long term when they signed Samuel as a $56 million free agent after the 2007 season. Well, they didn't.
For each of his 23 interceptions as an Eagle, Samuel missed five tackles.
For every pick he turned into six, he gave up 10 touchdowns.
Asante Samuel was a fraud, wrapped in a mirage, inside an illusion.
He had the hands of a receiver and the tackling skills of a quarterback.
Sorry, quarterbacks.
And then there was the mouth.
Always, the mouth; always, running.
Good for sports writers; bad for coaches.
And don't be endeared to Samuel for taking a pay cut in order to move. He was due more than $21 million the next two seasons. He reportedly restructured his contract to make no more than $18.5 million over 3 years.
His alternative?
Get cut. Be on the street after the draft. Hope someone sees some value, and take whatever they offer, hope for a big season and pray your reputation doesn't follow you.
Instead, Samuel had a say in where he landed.
Remind you of anyone?

The defensive tackle?
I'm pretty sure he's old. He might help them stop the run, but I don't think he'll be a full time starter anymore.
