Was watching youtube highlights which led me to Sammy Baugh highlights.I dont think I ever realized he played out of the shotgun, and it looked like he was lined up way back there, some of his passes it looks like he drops back 15-20 yards before throwing the pass.
Also,I knew that you used to be able to get up and run after being tackled, but I didnt realize it was still going on in the 40's,I havent looked up when they changed the rules, but hell those records dont mean shit.Watching these highlights, players are still running after getting tackled 3 or 4 times

There were some other examples before this but they were kind of hard to spot,go to the 5;25 mark in video and theres clear footage of runner getting up twice after being tackled

I got ya. Yeah seems like he kind of trips himself up both times and no one really touches him while he was down so he gets back up.
Harry Wismer, the announcer, by the way was one of the most influential people in sports and sports media. Really a remarkable person not enough people know about

I rewatched it,the first time he is def tackled by packer,2nd time he's tripped by own players
Look at 4:08 and 4:26 and youll see some others get up after being tackled. On the people that dont get up,youll notice they cant, people either pile on or hold them down till ref calls them down.Ive googled it and I cannot find when the rules were changed

History of NFL Rules (http://www.sportsattic.com/araig/NflRulesHistory.htm)
1955-A rule change declared the ball dead immediately if the ball carrier touched the ground with any part of his body except his hands or feet while in the grasp of an opponent.
Apparently before that you had to be down for like three seconds
