This is one of those few times where I think you can scheme with Vick/McCoy and it makes the whole line look a lot better. Sure, I fully understand that it's a fine line of does the line make the RB/QB better and vice versa, but you put a less mobile QB behind that line and it looks pretty bad. REDSKINS4ever 03-26-2012, 08:24 PM rebuilding what? i'd say we've been building for 20 years The Redskins haven't been rebuilding for 20 years. They've played musical chairs with head coaches while many top draft picks have busted. They've drafted a lot of bad players that the team didn't need. The Redskins, with only five winning seasons in 20 years(1996-1997-1999-2005-2007) have struggled as a franchise due to poor ownership, mismanagement of general managers, and signing high priced free agents as well. This is why this franchise hasn't done much in the past twenty years after Gibbs retired the first time. The Goat 03-27-2012, 01:47 AM How's this for an answer: we're probably done rebuilding the offense, but the defense, which technically we've been rebuilding since the new regime arrived, is still in rebuild mold and probably will be for years to come. I am sure we would have been done rebuilding on defense if the health of our safeties would not have been an issue. Who are the starting corners? Do we ever expect to have a defense boasting consistent pressure w/o finding a standout nose tackle? And who's gonna replace London after 2013? (Riley can't play both ILB spots at the same time ;) ) And it's not that we should be done rebuilding the offense either, but over the next three drafts we only have three picks in Rds 1 and 2. Limited...is the word, word? I mentioned safeties, b/c I think if both had returned healthy, we probably could have gone after a #1 CB. Although then again with this cap issue, we could have stay put with the same defense from last year. I doubt we are going to replace Cofield, although I think he'd fit best as a DE. Without our safeties issue, finding a possible replacement for Fletch would have been our only "rebuilding" move. The defense improved greatly last year. Had it not been for the blow coverages by the secondary throughout the 2011 season, that 13th ranking would have easily been a top ten ranking. The defensive front and linebackers played well last year. But the safeties had injuries and the corner backs gave up a lot of big plays in the passing game. Hopefully with new additions at the safety positions and with Raheem Morris coaching the defensive backs, it will help the Redskins move into the top ten in defense this year. |
