Sean Payton, Bill Parcells discuss New Orleans Saints job, sources say - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7738693/sean-payton-bill-parcells-discuss-new-orleans-saints-job-sources-say)
Just out of curiosity, does the league regulate spending for coaches? I know that Payton is not being paid, but I am sure Parcells won't come cheap for them.

Woah, just saw it on the rundown. Crazy
Sean William Scott and the Rock prophesized that the Saints would pick up Parcells in the film The Rundown? I'll have to go watch that movie again...

I am amazed that 57% in this poll think the punishment was just right or to light. Would love to see those numbers if it were the Redskins getting these penalties. Suspending the head coach for a full season is like handing out a death sentence to the 2012 Saints. What did the Saints fans do to deserve that?...especially the season ticket holders who had to plunk down their money a couple weeks ago. I don't care if they fine Payton his entire salary but it is not fare to the fans for them to suspend him for a full season.
It sure didn't seem to hurt their season ticket sales.

Imagine if Parcells gets talked into running the ship for a season? I don't think losing Payton is going to hurt them a whole lot in the end. Brees can practically run the offense in his sleep. All they need is a caretaker at HC.

Not to mention Payton's job isn't threatened if Parcells takes the reins for a year. He's 71 years old. He's no long-term threat. But if one of this assistants steps in on an interim basis and the team is still very successful, Benson may think twice about bringing Payton back with all that baggage. Of course I suppose any decision is Benson's anyway.

Does anyone know the details about why the Saints can't put one of their assistants as an interim? Is it another rule that the NFL just made up or something?

Who says they can't?

They can, but I can think of two reasons why Payton wouldn't. 1) Sean Payton is worried that one of them will out do him, thus he is worried about his job security and has contacted Parcells because he knows he will only be a one year type deal; or 2) He has no faith that any of his coordinators are good enough to be head coaches currently.

Oh okay...I don't know for some reason some sports talking head on Twitter (can't remember who) said as though there was some rule preventing him from doing it.
