so, GT, what's our move at safety then? resigning a guy for a lot more money that can't stay on the field and doesn't really care? i mean, come on. there are a bunch of average ho hum safeties out there, and we're going to try a couple of them out.Are you asking me where would I go from this point, or if I would have decided not to dig a hole in the first place?

well, you've made it clear you'd keep OA and LL at 5mill ea for this year from what i remember, and i don't think wasting that much cap space on guys that are going to be spending most of the year on the bench is any better of a plan than new blood...

But that was a football decision, not a cap decision.
Lowery's cap number is $2 million btw.

Meriweather wouldn't have been my 1st choice but it fills a need with a starting caliber player.
Meriweather has the skillset that once made him a pro-bowl Safety.
But his performance of late has not lived up to his talent.
Hopefully Meriweather has decided to re-focus and Raheem Morris can be a catalyst?
If so then the signing would be a steal.
But, even if Meriweather is merely average he fills a need at a fair cost.
My FA Safety list would look like this:
Reggie Smith, Corey Lynch, Brandon Meriweather, Craig Steltz, Haruki Nakamura, Zbikowski, Atari Bigby
I still hold out hope that Raheem Mooris brings in one of my favorite college football players Corey Lynch Stats - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/11411/corey-lynch) from Tampa Bay.

I wonder if they figured out on tape what was causing Meriweather to play so poorly the last two years. He was an exciting player three years ago.
If he's a week one starter, we're in trouble. But if he's still starting in Week 17, then its probably a good signing.
Decent buy low opportunity, but I'm caught wondering what 'plan A' is.
Deep breaths everyone. How many games did Atogwe and Landry miss last year and where did the Defense rank at the end of the year? The biggest thing that could benefit the Defense would be a halfway decent Offense that doesn't turn the ball over, can control the clock and give the Defense a chance to play with the lead. Every team has holes and the Redskins are no exception. Giants had a crappy running game and the Pats had a crappy Defense. So what?
There is still the draft and free agent signings will happen through the summer. O-line did fine last year despite injuries. Besides, with a rookie QB, we will still be in rebuild mode next year.

Yup. Redskins fans should prepare for higher scoring games. Let's hope that we come out on the right side more often than not.
LOL.. Iv'e been preparing for that for 10 years.. Still preparing.

Not particularly crazy about this head case Meriweather.
A great pass rush and many sacks will cure a weak defensive backfield. Kerrigan will help. Orakpo needs to step up fulfill his potential. He played very undisciplined at times last year. It also seemed like Orakpo played worse as the year went on, which was a major disappointment.
Amazing that we can now say $2M is a small salary.
I am really tired of the salary cap. I wish it would go away. It destroys good teams.
