I can say that the decision to not slap the Franchise Tag on Landry raised a LOT of eyebrows across the league. I mean, it's one thing to determine the safeties are the main reason we had poor pass defense (I don't disagree -- particularly when Landry was out), it's another thing to fear a player in the prime of his career so much you let him walk for nothing. He's damaged goods, so he's probably not going to get guaranteed money in excess of $8 million, but still. With all the options the Redskins had to keep Landry around, it's safe to say they would have released him even if he had a year left on his contract.

The way we as fans felt when Eric Winston got cut? That's how other teams felt when Landry didn't get the tag.

Atogwe was the kind of guy who you don't cut if you don't like the market, but move on from if you have a better option.

I do think they view Meriweather more of a Landry replacement than an Atogwe replacement.

A lot of the Landry issue comes down to who you trust to recommend the best interest of his future: Landry and his doctors, or the Redskins and their doctors. I know a lot of teams with medical staffs who would be very happy to get their hands on our 'problem' at a medical discount.

It did?

It was no big secret the tag was going to be put on Davis or LL, and most were leaning toward it being Davis.

And if he is such a premium player, why is he still on the market?

would love to see Brandon Meriweather bounce back to his earlier form a few years ago. Hopefully, he will learn not to freelance so much, allowing big pass plays to happen. That was the knock on him from what I remember. I for one really like Landry but it didn't seem that he really wanted to be in DC and didn't like how he wasn't listening to the doctors.

He's picking from four teams, Meriweather had just two visits.

Mario Williams signed today, but that doesn't mean I'd take Frostee Rucker over him, who signed yesterday.

I had hope for him since the redskins drafted him. The times I liked Landry's performances though were- when he was playing with Sean Taylor and in the games he played in 2010. There doesn't seem to be a lot of options in fa or the draft for a redskins problem position(s).

We will all see what the teams thought he was worth when we see how much he gets. The real proof is in the money.

LL is damaged goods at this point. Teams move on from guys like this all the time.

Oh right...so you're aware of all the interest in LL how then?

C'mon dude, let's hope Meriweather can turn things around here w/ a great DB coach. My assumption is Morris has significant input on our secondary now, so he probably thinks Meriweather can do something here. Let's give them both a shot.
Yeah lets not forget, the second best saftey to come through Washington, since Ken Houston, was supposedly a bust. Ryan Clark has been one of the best free safteys in the league, since the year he played for us.

I look at the Giants and Green Bay, neither have great secondaries but very good to great front 7's. If we resign Fletcher I think our front 7 is pretty good. Riley is coming along, add in Jenkins if healthy and every players 2nd year in this defense. We just need some young guys to come along and our defense will be fine. Gomes was a rookie last season, he is gonna surprise some people this season.

I like the signing of Brandon Meriweather, this might be his "last chance" at a nice contract. If he returns to form he can get 15-20 million more before his career is over, if not he is a minimum salary guy for the rest of his days.
