Redskins Won't Franchise SmootSmootSmack 02-04-2005, 03:04 AM http://washtimes.com/sports/20050204-012524-9724r.htm MTK 02-04-2005, 09:35 AM damn, $8.8M for the corner franchise tag??!! See ya Smoot FRPLG 02-04-2005, 09:50 AM Well thats a disappointment. Now we lose Smoot AND get nothing in return. I was all excited about getting a Smoot jersey if we resigned him too....sigh.... FRPLG 02-04-2005, 09:51 AM Oh yeah...8.8 is ricockulous! I dare say no corner will ever get tagged from now on with type of number. Who are the top 5 in the league? Gmanc711 02-04-2005, 10:34 AM WOW. 8.8 MILLION??? Who the hell is driving that number up so high? Chump? Damn, this sucks....BIGTIME. I"m 100% focused on Peirce right now, although I've heard through some rumors that might not be going so well either. skinsfanthru&thru 02-04-2005, 11:50 AM the only ones I can think of driving up the price on the cb tag would be chump, ty law, mccalister, and either surtain or madison or both. anyone wonder how much law is gonna be looking to get if he gets cut by the pats? especially after being out for most of last year with an injury. but as far as smoot goes, at that price he's gone, but gms and owners have shown in the past to regularly overpay for good, consistent cbs and he might actually get something close to that. it was cool having him hear, but obviously right now after all this time saying he loved this team and town and all that stuff, he's showing his true colors and they aren't burgundy and gold like we had hoped. ChounsMan 02-04-2005, 01:42 PM Smoot is doing what the NFLPA encourages their clients to do. Unfortunately, he's gonna make the same mistake Bailey made. Smoot could truly thrive is Williams system in '05. Oh well..... I couldn't have said it better. jdlea 02-04-2005, 04:57 PM I don't actually think he's that important. I like him and don't think he's asking for too much, but Walt Harris and Garnell Wilds showed they have some ability. I don't know that he played that much better than Springs this year. I think they'll be fine without him. skinsguy 02-04-2005, 05:11 PM I think the Skins will be okay without Smoot...I really started liking him this season though....he really played well..played hurt! That's what Gibbs likes about his players..when they give it all they got and don't let injury hold them back... still look at it when they won the SB in '82...the team was mostly comprised of free agents and walk ons! |
