hey guys, what's the cap ramifications on us taking Portis and giving up champ. If I'm not mistaken, Portis still is under contract from when he signed as a rookie and that would obviously be be cap friendly however, will he want a new deal with the Skins. Oh yeah, is Scott's gonna help him pack, I'll drive his moving truck for him for NADA !!! So long Champ ...

U mean for just a returner right?

Off topic perhaps, but -- I hate when the news media says the top teams like the Green Bay Packers and NY Giants are not active in free agency -- because they have a "different philosophy", etc. Just a bunch of bull.

One of the main reasons that the good teams don't go after free agents is -- they already have good players, and try to keep them. Keeping their own costs money and they use most of the cap. Our team traditionally gets high priced FA's every year, and then tosses them out the next. When we get rid of high priced players like McNabb, Haynesworth, Otogwe, etc -- we take a hit but usually still have cap room from dumping them to get more fAs the next year. Other teams Green Bay are filled with big ticket players who they keep for years, and thus don't go after players Vincent Jackson because (1) they don't need them, and (2) they can't afford them, and (3) small part philosophy of drafting players.

Just saying - that when we get good, we'll also not chase after Pierre Garcon's, but have the luxury of keeping our own and drafting within. I have a feeling this will be in the near future.

My thoughts Exactly. Wait till the Patriots lose Brady and go 4-12. They will be big players in free agency.
