Our defense isn't in very good shape right now because it finished the year very weak and could be losing two of its best players. Maybe more.

I hope they make it a significant target in free agency.

...fighting...very...hard...to not rehash my zillionth complaint about the Shanny/BA regime blowing up the defense upon arrival in DC.

Dwight Lowery might be a good target to replace OJ. Maybe a Brandon Taylor from LSU to replace the other LSU safety who'll be exiting from the Skins.

If Hall is cut, which I hope he is, Terrell Thomas would be a good FA to target...

Dwight Lowery is my no. 1 target in free agency, non-Redskins edition.

Eric Winston would be a very close second.

With the new cap space the Giants will be able to keep him

The Atogwe problem is this: we brought him in because Haslett wanted him. We paid him eight figures in terms of a year one contract. His performance here was pretty consistent (in spite of some injury related to his age) with what it was in St. Louis. He certainly wasn't worth the $10 million he made last year. He was worth about half that.

Well, his contract was structured so that he was only going to be about a $4-$5 million dollar player per season from here on out. That's about what he's worth.

And after a year where absolutely nothing surprising happened with Atogwe, Shanahan releases him despite Haslett still wanting him.

This is why I keep telling y'all there isn't a greater plan in place than what meets the eye. Our FO is a couple of guys with different opinions all pushing for their guy. And Atogwe is a great example of how our FO operates.

Atogwe's deal was only going to cost about $4 or $5 million after the first season? I didn't realize that.
This is really too bad. And even if the guy was getting paid more than he was worth relative to the rest of the NFL, that doesn't mean he was paid more than he was worth relative to the Redskins; with a chance of Landry and Hall being gone, cutting Atogwe leaves the Redskins secondary an absolute mess. With so little talent and so little depth, it is worth the Skins paying a little extra for whomever can take the field. Unsure what the Skins plans are, but looking at the development of our secondary over the course of the Allen years certainly leads one to your conclusion that there "isn't a greater plan in place than what meets the eye."

This is very dissapointing.

Atogwe and Landy barely played last year anyways.

Don't let that get in the way of a good old fan freakout

And to think, we nearly traded a pick for Atogwe two years ago...

Actually wouldnt surprise me to see him return later this summer at a lower price

Are you advocating bringing him back for "vet minimum"? ;)
