So what happens if we go 5-11 next year? Which is a real possibility. Then you've got a high pick going to the Rams.

The year after the Eli trade, the Chargers went 12-4, Giants went 6-10. SD had the Giants 12th overall pick. What made it worse at the time was the Giants could have not done a trade and still had Rivers (or Roethlisberger). I am not going to argue Eli vs Rivers vs Big Ben, but the Giants and Steelers have 2 Super Bowls since and the Chargers have a few division titles. Not as if the Skins can stay at 6 and still get one of the stud QBs.

Cutler was an already proven QB. RG3 isn't.

Isnt yet.

Having a young top caliber prospect at Qb in Washington has been a LONG time coming.
Luck and RGIII are special. Time will only tell if this trade has been worth it. The chance of the Redskins having the #1 or #2 pick in an upcoming draft is unlikely. We are a rebuilding team, but the days of having a Colt-like one or two win season are way behind us. This reason alone make this risk/trade slightly more palatable. Even if we did not do this trade and kept all of our picks, the chances of us being in position to draft an RGIII/Luck type Qb in the 2013 and 2014 draft is extremely unlikely.
We payed a high price to get our guy. I am starting to be ok with it.
FA and the draft picks we have left are critical. OL, CB, WR and developing quality depth are critical. If we fail to get quality at Cb, OL and to a smaller extent WR, we will be a .500 or less team again next year.
We showed early last season that when healthy this core group is pretty good. We were devastated with injury last year. That won't happen every year.

HTTR!

“This is the best throwing athlete I’ve seen come out in a while,” said former Baltimore Ravens coach Brian Billick, who now works for the NFL Network. “Far better than [Philadelphia Eagles quarterback] Michael Vick, in my opinion. Far better than [Carolina Panthers quarterback] Cam Newton.”

This is Brian Billicks take on RG3. Boy do I hope he is right! Not better, FAR BETTER. I think as time passes by, we will look back and be very satisfied with the trade.

I sure would like the Orakpo trading talk to die off.
Part of why I'm ok with the RG3 trade is that our defense is good and young and wont need that many bodies in the near future. Losing Rak would put a noticeable hole there.

I'm incredibly stoked that we went all-in for a QB and soon will have Griffin.

But the sticker shock is just killing me.

Sorry, I was at a dinner party last night. Wasn't expecting all this to happen. Before I walked in the door I spoke with a "contact" who said "Browns have upped their offer. Rams really want that #4 overall. Skins deciding what to do. Will probably be a few more days"

Boy was he wrong! And, for the record, so was I. I said it wouldn't happen so quickly and I got the trade parameters wrong. So let me first take the anti-CultBrennan59 approach and just apologize for getting that wrong.

In my opinion, I'm still not totally convinced the gap between Griffin and Tannehill is huge. That said, it's only my opinion and we absolutely had to get a QB (or two) this offseason.

Giving up a 2014 1st is pretty irrelevant to me at this point. I mean we're all operating under the assumption (I should say all of us who are down on the trade) it seems that that pick will also be a top #10 pick. Let's hope it's not.

I don't like giving up this year's 2nd. They could done a lot with that. Use it and our 3rd to move up some, use it to move down, or just use it.

It can be said now that Orakpo was part of a possible three-team scenario that would have landed the Rams picks and a current WR, the Redskins the #2 pick and possibly a later pick, and the third team as a pass rusher. The rumor was San Diego and Vincent Jackson, though to be fair I never understood or got clarity on how that would work.

SS, I think you called it pretty well when you posted a week or so ago stating we were "all in" for RG3. The whole Tannehill talk I would answer with this, why would the Browns up there offer and Skins would follow upping theirs to get the number 2 pick if Tannehill is close or just as capable? I think the choices of the Skins and the Browns are a testament of just how uncomfortable both are with taking Tannehill at 4 or 6. Gotta assume both thought Tannehill seemed to have alot more questions than RG3

This is what I've been saying for a long time. I don't understand how people are highly critical of getting a possible franchise QB for our team. If we didn't get one this year, who is to say that the next two drafts will produce someone close to the caliber of RG3? And before anyone says Matt Barkley, he will most likely go #1 overall and would mean would have to give MORE than we did this year to trade up to #1. You have to pay a big price to get a franchise player, especially at QB, one way or the other. As I've said before, not going after a franchise QB has really worked out for us the last 20 years hasn't it?!?

True but most top prospects go to bad teams. Once this deal is finalized on Tuesday we must move on, it's over and done with. Shannahan had to get a QB this year and with manning looking like he wasn't coming here the move had to be made. Will there be a lot of pressure on him, yes you better believe it. Can he handle it?

Yes he can, he is smart kids with a good head on his shoulders.

Here are 2 lineman we could choose from in the 3rd perhaps and be a smash mouth team again.

Brandon Brooks, G, Miami (Ohio)

Brooks is a 6'5'', 346-pound mammoth offensive lineman, who after not being invited to the combine, is certainly gliding under the radar.

However, he won't be overlooked come draft time.

I admittedly have not seen a ton of his tape, but I know his pro day workout drew rave reviews earlier this week and can cite one credible draft outlet's scouting report.

Sportsxchange.com had this to say about the Redhawks' star trenchman:

Has good natural strength and raw power with the ability to be a mauler in the run game. Plays with a firm base with a stout anchor, holding his ground at the point of attack. Keeps his pad level low and flashes consistent leverage. Stays balanced and patient in his stance. Has overpowering upper body strength to overwhelm and eliminate defenders from the play. Jolts with his hands and shows a strong initial push. Quick off the snap and moves well for his size. Offers versatility with experience at left tackle and both guard spots.

He'll be a likely option in the third or fourth round for a team looking for a versatile offensive lineman that seems to be NFL-ready. Seems like he has some Carl Nicks to him, doesn't he?

Amini Silatolu, G, Midwestern State

Silatolu is 6'3 5/8'' and weighs 320 pounds. Although he played at the FCS level in college, he wasn't missed by NFL scouts this season.

He was at the combine in Indianapolis, but didn't necessarily stand out.

Here's BuffaloBillsDraft.com's scouting report of this sleeper prospect:

Silatolu is a devastating open field blocker…locates well on the move and buries his man into the ground…aggressive blocker who plays with a mean streak, loves to finish his blocks…deliver the blow to the defenders…has a strong punch…Will get out in front of screen passes and outside runs to lead block…strong build that is well distributed…good footwork which allows him to stay balanced…anchors well v. the bull rush from the DE

Sounds like a real road-grader that will produce major holes in the running game for the next decade in the NFL.

He could be picked as early as Round 2, but should fall into the third or fourth round.
