GTripp0012 03-10-2012, 12:16 AM That was actually specifically for you (the veldheer thing) cause that always stuck in the back of my mind and I was going to politely bring that up to you on a draft board but like I said I'm so amped right now I'm jumping around like a kid at christmas that we got griffin. Predicting the NFL is 50-50. I think we all can go on this board and point out the he's right/you're rights about so many subjects.Neither of us is anywhere near 50-50.
SkinzWin 03-10-2012, 12:17 AM You must have missed a lot of drops by our receivers, or the terrible O line play due to starters being injured, etc. Fred Davis, Fletch, Kerrigan and Helu were our heroes last season, that was pretty much it. Hightower was fine till he got banged up, then he broke his leg. Just before he broke his leg he was only getting 2 ypg his last two games. Also, I think our starting O line isn't really all that hot. Throw in the probability of losing Landry and Fletch and well you have a lot of holes, especially if they trade Orakpo to try and get some picks back. Now we have to pray we find another Cooley gem or two in the mid to late rounds this season to actually make the 2-7 rounds worthwhile.
Always a glass half-full kinda guy huh?
Hail to the Redskins 03-10-2012, 12:18 AM In my thinking... there are 3 unique factors that FORCED the Skins into 3-1st Round Picks:
A) The Browns - We just HAPPENED (our luck) to be competing with a team who had 2 1st round picks when we are trying to trade up. Bad coincidence... this drove the asking price up.
B) Peyton Manning - Apparently, Peyton Manning was not going to be a backup/fallback option and our whole FO & Staff knew we NEEDED one of the "big 3 (Luck, RGII, Manning)"... this drove our buying point up.
C) WR Position - We just happen to be shopping for a top-teir FA WR at the same time as this scenario is playing out. This means we had to make a deal early, before free agency starts. Hard to sell a WR on a team with no QB... The flip-side is, the cost goes up BECAUSE free agency hasn't started, with FA QB options landing with teams competing for the #2 pick.
Ouch. 3 bad coincidences that just happened to hit us as this trade played out.
I say... hey... they realized they had to do what they had to do to get their guy. I hate losing the 2nd round pick the most, though... but... hey...
WE HAVE A REAL HOPE AT THE QB POSITION FOR THE FIRST TIME IN A LOOOOOONNNNGGG TIME!!! LET'S CELEBRATE THAT, NOT WHAT THE FUTURE PICKS "MAY" HAVE BEEN!!
mooby 03-10-2012, 12:18 AM I agree. Someone else in this draft or in free agency is going to turn out to be a better QB and the team who didn't give everything up to get that QB will be more successful. Flynn, Tannehill, Weeden, Cousins, etc. Do we even know Cleveland was a threat? If they got Flynn, we would have been in the driver's seat. This seems like a move of the previous regime. Competing against themselves.
I disagree. I think Cleveland had legit interest, which definitely helped drive the price up. I just hope it's not confirmed that the 2nd round pick is included in the deal, we could really use that pick to help RG3 out this year.
GusFrerotte 03-10-2012, 12:20 AM One thing this deal does for us, getting it done now, is give us some leverage with courting potential free agents, especially a big time receiver.
Gotta figure out how to shore up the D and the O-line as well...not going to be easy.
But hey, chances are RG3 will be a good one for some time, but dang...can't get over the price. Hopefully this time next year I will be over it :)
We need to shore up the O line to ensure he stays around for us. I would hope O line is the top FA priority now. If we don't shore it up this offseason we need to start Grossman again maybe so RG doesn't get killed until we have a decent line in place. That is my main line why I am bitching about the steep price. We really need to find 2-3 starting linemen soon. Trent is the new Tre Johnson, but at towards the end of his career, oft injured.
warriorzpath 03-10-2012, 12:20 AM RG III would have to be a lot better than Elway, Favre, Young, Marino, to to win with our team as it stands right now. We basically put all our eggs in one basket ala Shuler way back when. Thing is if RG III is a dud, we don't have a Frerotte or Trent Green to at least keep us somewhat competitve. Beck and Grossman suck!
But sometimes you have to go all in. RGIII is not going to be a dud. And the redskins finally have a potentially great qb. In the nfl, a great qb and a great defensive line may be all you need. It could be argued that- that's what the giants had this year.
It appeared to be true- Shanahan would be fired if he didn't pick up RGIII or Manning- or by some miracle another qb would have been able to play well enough for redskins to get into the playoffs.
What would you have done in Shanahans place?
CultBrennan59 03-10-2012, 12:20 AM Neither of us is anywhere near 50-50.
True, its probably less..My bad if I pissed you off. We're still wishing for the same thing which is for this team to become a super bowl winner again. We (on paper) have that right now with this QB move.
Lets get a WR and CB in FA and get this offseason going!
12thMan 03-10-2012, 12:21 AM Wow
GTripp0012 03-10-2012, 12:22 AM What would you have done in Shanahans place?I would have lost my job after the Bills game.
Gtothearry 03-10-2012, 12:22 AM The Chargers got 1st a 3rd and a 5th for Eli Manning.
The Chargers got a 3rd, 2nd and Tim Dwight for Vick.
We gave up two 1st and a 2nd for RGIII.
Looking at the above trades and value we got ripped for sure. I hope we get multiple superbowls out of this. Hopefully, it does down as one of the greatest trades ever in our favor instead of turning the Rams franchise around.
