Finnegan has made one pro bowl and that was in 08 and he does get beat by good receivers, now those receivers are reggie wayne and andre johnson but I would not be willing to spend the money to keep him away from tampa and other teams.
Vincent Jackson is almost 30 already and big physical receivers don't last as long as other receivers. Plus he seems like I just got paid type of receiver even though some people say he would be willing to stay in San Diego for less, but a holdout does show a lot about your character and priorities. Marcus is coming off two micro fracture knee surgeries...
Mike can make running backs and receivers look very good. Rod Smith and Eddie Royal in his rookie year come to mind. Hankerson could very well develop in to a very good receiver as could the possibility of drafting someone like Joe Adams.
Again stay away from free agents... go young and trust me you won't regret it. We already had our big offseason splash no need for more.

Good points, but right now none of our WRs are scaring any defenses. We need a #1 WR from day one to help out RG3. That said, I am not too crazy about VJax and would rather have Colston. I do think Hank will develop, especially if we have a true #1 wideout.

I still say Josh Morgan would be a nice addition at a reasonable cost, he's a sleeper WR with lots of potential.

We're not looking for a splash.
We're looking for weapons.
Ignoring free agency with the limited picks we now have would be suicide.

I think what would really help Griffin is a very good slot receiver in the draft like ryan broyles, a good tight end which we already have and possibly not this draft but next years draft a receiver to stretch the defense vertically, the common thought is you need a true number one but the 49ers, patriots, giants, and ravens didnt have that huge name receiver. Victor Cruz and Wes Welker are slot receivers even though they are great receivers. Depth at receiver is just as good as having one true number one. You could argue Nicks but i wouldn't put him up there yet till he is more consistent.

I think Welker has become a big name receiver for the Patriots, although when they had Randy Moss stretching the field (and scaring the hell out of everyone) they were pretty much unstoppable. As we saw in the SB, Cruz and Nicks were the focus of Darth Hoody's defense, and Cruz is on his way to becoming a big name receiver.

My point is that no one on our roster scares an opponent's secondary. With our cap room and the good options out there at wideout, I think it is an opportunity to get a guy like Colston or VJax that will be a threat in the passing game.

I am all for being cautious in free agency, but teams that are too frugal with their cap money are not the most successful ones. Neither are the ones tha spend a lot of money, but you have to find a nice balance between the two.

Don't you think we could do better than that with all this cap space? He doesn't have more than 700 yards and 3 TDs in four seasons.
