Yet Another QB Rumors Thread (Volume 9)

Once you get that QB you can build around then the depth moves and the trade downs make more sense and suddenly you look like a genius. For now trading down for average depth players is putting lipstick on a pig. How is an extra linebacker, an average receiver, or a starting Guard going to get us in the playoffs compared to drafting a first tier franchise QB?

Unless you end up with Patrick Willis, Andre Johnson, and Carl Nicks with those draft picks it won't even start to compare to the impact a franchise QB brings to the table.

And I'm sorry but all of those second tier guys at QB (Foles, Weeden, Tannehill, Ossweiler, etc) are going to be dwarfed at the end of their careers by the acheivements of a certain Robert Griffin III.

I tell you. I think what's funny as hell is watching the irony of fan reactions over the years.

GM: trades picks for players and supplements loss of talent via free agency which ultimately destroys cap in future.

Fans: OMG BUILD THROUGH THE DRAFT! Quit killing the salary cap! Our team is old and our depth sucks!! Look at New England and Pittsburgh.

GM: Conserves picks and builds roster through young, cheap talent while filling few holes with free agency.

Fans: OMG WE NEED TO BLOW THOSE PICKS ON THIS GUY!! We can build the team with loss of talent in free agency.

The irony of it all is mind boggling. It's almost like watching politicians at work. Flip flopping to hell, and have no issues with the way business is ran until it doesn't suit them. I'm just commenting on the situation, not saying one way or another in regards to RGIII or any other move. Merely a observation.

Same was said when Matt Leiart and Vince Young came out,how did that go?

When the bears failed to call in their draft day trade with the ravens, the ravens appealled to the league and asked to be awarded they extra pick they would have gotten in the deal. The league declined I think in part b/c the ravens still got the player they were targeting (j smith), the ravens could have called it in themselves instead of relying on the bears assurances they made it official and the bears did a decent mea culpa song and dance.

If a handshake deal with the terms are announced before March 13 and the deal isnt made official on March 13 and the rams accept another offer, i would be sure the skins would appeal and the league would enforce the trade or award the skins some serious comp picks.

I dont want to get rid of orakpo either, especially if we still have to give up considerable draft picks.

When we FINALLY moved him and kerrigan around and switched them up in the last game against the eagles, the results were instantanous. Orakpo may be a one trick rush the passer poney, but you need elite pass rushers. We just have to use him better, move him around.

Agree very true.

Nicks from the Saints doesn't seem like he'd be a great fit in the ZBS but what do I know. He's more of a road grader type, but he does move well for a big guy. Shanahan has never been one to spend big on the interior either. That's the one rumor I would definitely question.

I don't think Nicks is coming here. Nor Grubbs for that matter. In fact, hearing more and more they're may not be radical additions at OL this off-season. Maybe some depth, but we'll see

This,

Also, we tried the build the line first, back in 2000's, what happened was we became a team good enough to draft in the middle of the pack, but never got the Franchise QB to go with it. Now, I know we need a solid line, but a true Franchise QB (and we would hope that's who we would be getting by "sacrificing" those picks), makes up for ALOT of team deficiencies. Look at the contenders, while they all have weaknesses, not one of them is thinking that their qb is a weakness (well maybe Flacco, but that is more fan speak I think). Eventually, if we want to be a consistent competitive team, you HAVE to get your qb. JG knew that, even though he did it with 3 diff qbs, none of them were slouches, and he went for JC imo because he knew he had to get one, and that was the best he could reach for. Shanahan knows it, that is why he went for McNabb, the fact that McNabb was a bust was a different problem.

Separately,

One other thing this team needs is a playmaker. Someone who makes other teams react to us. RGIII is the only player that I see us getting who remotely fits that bill. The top CB would be nice, but not a game changer. VJax would fit it, but someone has to get him the ball, OL/LB's none that we would get appear to be that playmaker who makes the other team sweat. For once, in like a zillion years, I would like other teams to be talking about having to find a way to contain one of our players.

RGIII Please.

We need a stud QB...period. If MS says that guy is at #2, then I'm not sweating the picks we give up to get him. If it's someone else....fine.

This regime is proving to be quite competent and I trust they will make the right decision on who our QB of the future is.

(crossing fingers for RG3)

Any word on who they might get for RT? Are they looking to improve at RT?

I don't think anyone considered trading up to draft those two.
