Current speculation (Omar Kelly wrote of it in the Sun-Sentinel today & John Clayton referenced it on Mike & Mike) is that the Rams would prefer to trade their #2 pick prior to the start of free agency in order to maximize value.
It makes a lot of sense because as opposed to most years when draft picks grow in value as the draft approaches, free agency can reduce the true number of suitors for RGIII depending on where Manning and Flynn end up. Clayton also said the Dolphins and Seahawks aren't realistically in it so it will come down to us and Cleveland.
Throw in the post-Combine weekend speculation that the Browns are unwilling to part with both #1 picks and that they are planning to go hard after Flynn the cards are laying out for a RGIII-Redskins marriage at some point soon.
From our standpoint, it would also be beneficial to make the move prior to free agency because we'd then know where we need to focus our resources. We can address WR, G and CB via free agency if we know the QB position will be addressed with the #2 pick.
Great post. Pretty much lays it all out as to why we'll probably see a deal get done before FA starts, because it's beneficial to both sides. And if the Rams want Eli Manning type compensation for the #2 pick, I see no reason as to why we won't give it to them.

Good post.
See I personally would wait if I were the Redskins because I know that Flynn and Manning are both very likely to go to one of those teams. It'll always be us and another team wanting griffin, but when all is said and done, I just think it'll be griffin throwing his beautiful deep passes to _____ come this fall on the skins.

Smoot, Matty, or anyone else who can answer this question- How would a deal be completed prior to FA? Is it that the deal can be completed and finalized on March 8th or 9th because the league year starts then, and FA signing does not begin till the 13th?
Are my dates and thinking correct as to when teams can start trading picks and players again?

They can do handshake deals all they want, but I don't think trades can officially be completed before a certain date next month. Not sure if it's the start of the league year or the start of FA.

It would be officially official on March 13th. But for all intents and purposes it can happen now

Well for all intents and purposes if a deal did get done today wouldn't it just be a handshake deal, with nothing to bind it until the paperwork did get completed? That's not to say both sides would renege on the deal but all they'd have is their word that the deal got done until the paperwork can be submitted to the league office.

Well, they can still make deals. They usually work out. Infact, never heard of a team backing out. I hope they do make a deal, because the speculation is killing me.

Now what happens if Cleveland is bluffing and don't have plans to draft RGIII? Not trying to be negative, but what if that is the case.
