We have the cap dollars to replace a few draft picks in free agency. What our cap money can't buy is a young franchise QB...
Yeah, but there are no guarantees and there are other QBs in this draft who might go on to have more success.

Does that come with a guarantee ,doing well at a combine does'nt translate into a Super bowl and really where people were talking about Luck for a few years ,noone had been talking about RGIII untill this year, that is a hell of alot to give up.
Well I am sure you would prefer we keep our picks and keep trotting out the likes of Rex & Beck every year. Combine has nothing to do with the Skins interest in RG3. Shanny has been watching college QB tape since mid season. And just because the media was not spouting about him does not mean RG3 was not a prospect before this year.

Howard Eskin @howardeskin
I'm told by people within Redskins they are prepared to offer picks 1,2 and 3 this year, at least a 1 next year to move up to get RG3 at 2
No way I make that trade. We have more holes then just the qb position. I'd give all that up for luck but not the unknown of rg3

But we are getting their first .... So we r just giving up our 2nd and 3rd in reality
..... We have a ton of cap room to fill other needs

I liked the direction the team was going with youth. I still think if we want rg3 it will be cheaper to wait to draft day to make the trade up
You wait and someone else has the chance to lock in a deal before the draft.
I think a deal gets done before the draft.

In this situation where the value of the pick is based on one player and position the Rams will lose value waiting until draft day. Teams will make QB decisions in free agency that take them out of the bidding. If only 1 team is left without a QB then the Rams lose thier leverage. I think a deal will be announced when Free agency begins.

Well said. Makes sense.

The price tag reported by Eskin doesn't seem super exorbitant to me and I doubt we're talking about both the second and third round picks anyway: we're probably talking about either or.
Your draft is toast the second you do it though. The biggest problem with that trade isn't the price tag, it's the expectations that Griffin would be saddled with. It seems to ensure that the Redskins will be not very good for at least one more year (and who knows anything after that). Wheras going the "safer" route with Weeden doesn't really determine the quality of the rest of your draft.
