I just don't know if Weeden is a Day 1 starter. If he is, I am fine with him - just not at the 6th pick. There are better, lower risk options at that spot. diehard 02-24-2012, 01:32 PM Weeden can come to this team as the "unquestioned" starter for all I care. I'm all in for drafting the best player available at #6 (sans RG3) and then taking Weeden in the 2nd/3rd or later... REDSKINS4ever 02-24-2012, 02:16 PM Weeden is similar to Jay Schroeder. Schroeder played baseball for the Toronto Blue Jays before he was drafted by the Redskins in the 4th round in 1984. Schroeder, after replacing Joe Theismann, was a pretty good quarterback for three seasons for the Redskins until he lost his starting job to Doug Williams. Weeden is an accurate passer. It shouldn't matter that he's 28 years old. I think that's a plus. You'd figure that he'd be more intelligent and mature than say a 22 or 23 year old rookie QB. If he can come in do the job day 1 then the issue of age really becomes less important. At that point it is almost a wash. diehard 02-24-2012, 02:27 PM This is it pretty much. That is of course, Grossman is still on the team :benched: skinsfanthru&thru 02-24-2012, 03:50 PM My heart dictates that I want us to draft a big player maker ie RG3 or Blackmon, but my brain hopes we do what we did last year if neither of those is available at 6 and trade down to gather more solid picks while picking up a solid, yet potentioal stud 1st rounder like Kerrigan wound up being. After the teams successful job of scouting last year and making each pick count, I wonder what magic they can pull out of their hat this year but these next 2 months will be interesting. At least we'll see some pieces fall into place when free agency opens up in a couple weeks to appease us a little bit. freddyg12 02-24-2012, 04:06 PM Roger Staubach was a 27 yr. old rookie, he had a pretty good career. I like Weeden, and his age is a plus for about 5-6 years, provided he can play in the nfl. I wouldn't be surprised to see him go in the mid 1st a la Ponder form 11. GTripp0012 02-24-2012, 04:19 PM I wouldn't trivialize Weeden's age by suggesting he could have an 8 or 9 year career as a starter. I mean sure, if he sets the Redskins all-time passing yards record as a rookie and makes the pro bowl, that becomes a pretty reasonable projection for his career path, but what are (realistically) the chances of him doing that? If you take Weeden, the concern is in the here and now: what can he give you in 2012 and going into 2013? After that, you have a 31 year old QB who you are working year to year with. If you take Weeden and your thought process is "we're good at QB for at least the next six years" I think you're doing it wrong. When you've won 11 games in 2 years, the only draft pick that matters is a draft pick that can help you win 10 or 11 games in this upcoming season. los panda 02-24-2012, 04:43 PM i like weeden a lot more than tannehill |
