Son Of Man 02-04-2012, 12:51 PM I've been rubbing a garden gnome's head, crossing my fingers and searching for four leaf clovers in hopes that Manning goes to Cleveland.
Won't happen....but that would be nice.
The Goat 02-04-2012, 03:11 PM Mike Florio just can't help himself. Did Snyder sue him or something?
Florio Claims Skins Are “In Bad Shape” « CBS Washington (http://washington.cbslocal.com/2012/02/03/florio-claims-skins-are-in-bad-shape/)
Profootballtalk and NBC Sports’ Mike Florio joined “The Sports Junkies” on 106.7 The Fan while at radio row in Indianapolis, IN during Super Bowl week and spoke candidly about the direction he thinks the Redskins are going.
When asked point-blank if he thought the Skins were heading in the right direction, Florio responded immediately with, “No.” Asked if he though the franchise was treading water he replied, “treading water would be a compliment right now.”
Some fans and pundits think Peyton Manning could be the remedy to cure the mediocrity that has been ailing D.C. Florio predicted it could make matters worse.
“Peyton Manning’s not going to want to play quarterback in an offense where the guy that’s running it has a joystick in his hand and wants the quarterback to do exactly what he wants the quarterback to do,” Florio said. ”Peyton Manning would strap Kyle Shanahan to a goal post with Duct Tape within a week,” he added.
Albeit in different language, this is exactly what I've said in several threads. I'd be shocked, disappointed and somewhat dumbfounded to see Manning "sell out" and come play for this coaching regime. Peyton never struck me as a money beats all kind of guy. If he plays I really think it's to win more rings, which he deserves more than his little brother lol.
Florio is stating his opinion as a fact, but my guess is his opinion has 80% likeliehood of facthood when this regime finally passes. I cannot for the life of me see whatever the kool-aid drinkers are seeing about Mike and Kyle's little adventure here.
TheMalcolmConnection 02-04-2012, 03:16 PM My issue is that if we're going to be mired in mediocrity, we have to be willing to take seasons like the one we just took. As a fan base, while we've been patient after our last Super Bowl win, we have been far too vocal and impatient when it comes to coaching/owners/players.
I 100% guarantee that if we get a new QB and he doesn't perform at a Pro Bowl level and maybe we go 7-9 or 8-8, Skins fans will go apeshit.

Is that saying if he does that in year 2 or 3? If so, I say yeah. Year 1 though? Nah, or at least I wouldn't.
Btw I'm thinking of switching from my iphone to boost mobile.

Well, do you think two straight years of 8-8 while still adding quality youth is acceptable? I mean I do, and I think a lot of us here are willing to be patient, but the fan base as a whole, especially the DC media will start putting tons of pressure.
We're talking about the Texans in another thread and they're a PERFECT example of teams who put together quality seasons even though their records weren't amazing, they stayed the course as an organization and as a fan base.

The Sports Junkies and Florio together? Talk about a shit sandwich. Cant take what either of these say seriously.

Cardinals or Jets for Manning

I love what the Texans did this year, first off.
But when you have a Great RB, a GREAT WR, and a good QB like Schaub, all they needed was a defense. They got a Great D Coordinator and drafted and signed a couple FA's and bang! They had a top 5 defense. The Texans were always a team that people would say was playoff bound ('This is there year they have a cardinals-like run in the playoffs!' I've heard that for 3 straight years now...)

With all due respect, this is completely wrong. After the ridiculously horrible teams and below average quarterback play we have witnessed the past decade and a half, if we get youth on this squad, try and build through the draft, and quit signing veteran players for way too much, then the fanbase will "take their lumps".
That is, with one variable.
Better quarterback play, or at least quarterback play with a little promise. If we have back to back 7-9 or 8-8 seasons, but have a capable rookie at the helm, and understand that the pieces are being put in place, and the team will take a year or two to completely "gel", then I hope that we as skins fans can see the light at the end of the tunnel. 7-9 or 8-8 would bring our squad out of the cellar, and might just end our reign as the laughing stock of the league. But it all hinges on quarterback play, and that all depends on the front office and how they plan on getting him here.
7-9 with a nice young rookie showing promise, acceptable.
7-9 with Rex Grossman at the helm, again leading the league in fumbles and turnovers, unnacceptable.
artmonkforhallofamein07 02-04-2012, 08:34 PM Ok don't kill me here guys, but there are good stories in the NFL about building teams through the draft, but there are also teams who have been building through the draft and getting the same poor results for years.
IE: Browns, Tampa, Carolina, Jags, even the Chiefs and the Lions, yeah some of these teams have had a good year a time or two. AND yes I realize I put the Lions on this list, but they are still the Lions. We are going to need to see a change for years not one goods season.
I know we need to put an emphasis on the draft but bringing in a few good FAs is a good move for this franchise as we need more depth and players all across the board.
Man I do believe in the FO because I am a huge fan , but I want to see some results this year!!
Sorry for the thread highjack, just needed to ramble on some random thoughts for a minute.
TMC- I don't know how long a fan base is suppose to stay patient when we are talking about a 20 year period with only three playoff seasons, one NFC East Championship, and 2 playoff wins. Back in the 80s and into 90 and 91 we had a team we could honestly expect to be good and contend each year.
