Me too!! :cussing: I love watching those Riggins highlights!! :thumb: Daseal 01-28-2005, 03:00 PM It was great fellas! One thing that suprised me, even back then the Redskins had 26 Free Agent acquisitions on their roster. Wow. firstdown 01-28-2005, 03:34 PM I just love to see that run were riggins runs right over that defender between him and the goal line. SmootSmack 01-28-2005, 04:42 PM One of the most underrated plays in Super Bowl history was in that game when Theismann knocked away a sure interception in the end zone. Pure hustle, saved the game for us JoeRedskin 01-28-2005, 04:52 PM Actually, ESPN gives that play some pretty good respect - It's ranked number 46 on Page 2's 100 Greatest SB Moments. It beats out some pretty good stuff. Riggo's run is rated number 7. (Of course, you have to take their ratings with a grain of salt - Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" is number 8). 7 Gassing up the Diesel Super Bowl XVII: Facing fourth-and-1 at the Miami 43 and trailing 17-13 with 10:10 remaining in the game, Joe Gibbs decides to go for it. Out of the I formation, the give is to John Riggins on a play called '70 chip.' Washington had run that play often throughout the season, but it surprises the Dolphins defense, which is caught out of position. A great block by Hog Rick Walker opens the door for Riggins, who breaks a tackle by Don McNeal and goes all the way for the TD. The Redskins take the lead and win 27-17. 46 Theismann plays defense Super Bowl XVII: With the Dolphins leading the Redskins 17-13 in the third quarter, Miami LB Kim Bokamper deflects a Joe Theismann pass and is about to corral the ball for a possible TD. But Theismann saves the day by knocking the ball loose. http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=superbowlmoments10 SmootSmack 01-28-2005, 04:59 PM You're right Joe Redskin, I just meant in terms of the average fan. If you ask them to recall some great moments in SB history, or even just Skins history it's not at the top of the list. It's more like a "oh yeahhhh. I remember that now" sportscurmudgeon 01-28-2005, 04:59 PM This is very interesting. Did the people who posted comments about the game referring to John Riggins actually watch what was on ESPN? Or did you naturally assume that this was the Skins/Dolphins Super Bowl that the Skins won? Just asking... SmootSmack 01-28-2005, 05:02 PM I didn't watch it and was wondering which one it was but when Daseal wrote "It Was Great Fellas" I had to think it was the one they won...was it not |
