Would gibbs of used the term re-sign rather than re-negotiat if he was talking about Samuels. I think it is smoot because of his wording.
I don't think those are Gibbs words so much as they are the Washington Post's. And I ain't no English major but wouldn't renegotiating be the process of getting the new contract done whereas re-signing is actually putting pen to paper?

I'd take that... Samuels have have been above average, but Smoot is a team leader AND above average.:)

i haven't been able to read all the posts lately but does anyone think he might have been referring to players more under the radar (not to mention players who will more cap-friendly) like peirce, marshall, or thrash? Samuels will either renegotiate or will be getting the door hitting him on the ass on the way out. plus how much longer is ramsey signed until?

It's gotta be Samuels. Although re-signing Smoot is a priority, Smoot is the least likely of the Skins' big free agents to stick around. The reason is because Gibbs and Snyder both know that we can get something good in return for Smoot should he choose to not re-sign here. We will franchise him and deal him for high draft choice(s) or possibly some veterans that can come in and make an immediate impact. Although Samuels and Pierce could potentially be traded as well, they would not garner the interest that Smoot would on the trade market. Therefore, if there is one person who is not coming back to the Skins next year, it's Smoot.
I desperately want Smoot to stick around, but I won't be overly worried should he leave. Gibbs, Williams and Snyder know the importance of having good corners in this defensive system, so if Smoot leaves, I am confident that Snyder will whip out the checkbook and find someone comparable to replace him.
I have loved the offseason since Snyder took over. Danny Boy always seems to keep us on our toes, and you never quite know what he's gonna do. Unfortunately, for the past decade, the offseason has been by far the most exciting time to be a Skins fan. Let's just hope that some of this offseason excitement turns into Ws next year.

I'm saying Smoot. I have a feeling that the Pierce/Samuels/Wynn renegotiations will go fairly smoothly. I think he realizes they need to sign Smoot.

Oh how true that statement is.
Yup I would love to see smoot stay. But now that I think about it If he goes somewhere. This is just a thought but what if we trade Smoot to the vicks for Moss.. They do need dfence overthere. They might be just desprit enough to do the trade it could cost us a sec round in the draft. but who knows.

Smoot and a 2nd rounder (of which we don't have right now?) The Vikes would laugh at that deal. Perhaps the most explosive offensive player when healthy for an above average corner and a 2nd rounder? Doubt that. They'd want our #9 for sure. If we lose Smoot, I'd like to get at least a 2nd for him, and use our first on a CB. Rolle or the guy from Auburn!

Daseal, you are 100% on the money. The guy to get if we draft a corner is without question Carlos Rogers.
