Does that giggle creep anyone else out?

I for one don't see him staying the 5 years. Especially if things on the offensive side of the ball don't get working in 1-2 more years.

Parcells said that of Glen after he first drafted him, but the Gibbs and Parcells coaching approach are polar opposites and that extends to the coaching staff . Parcells will rip into a player in public where as Bugel will do so more in private. Its different coaching approches thats all.

Keep in mind that his last stint in the NFL lasted 12 years. By that measure, an eight year hitch would be short.

I have no doubt Coach Gibbs will do what ever is necessary to right the ship, and then pass the torch to a worthy successor. His dedication is to this franchise, not his legacy, and it will show in his results.

A couple of notes here:

1. Since Danny Boy still owns the team - unless I mssed a memo recently - what makes you think Joe Gibbs will name the next coach? All of a sudden, Danny will cede that authority to him even when Gibbs is gone? I have my doubts...

2. Everyone here seems to be 100% certain that Gregg Williams would be a great successor to Gibbs. Maybe he will - but maybe not. Williams was mediocre in Buffalo at best. He left and the team got a lot better in one season. Hmmm...

3. The Joe Gibbs list of assistant coaches who have gone on to glory as head coaches eslewhere is pretty short - maybe even a blank piece of paper? Joe Bugel stunk out the joint in Arizona and Oakland. Jim Hanifan? Cam Cameron back in college? Richie Pettibon? So how does this guarantee glory and success for the Skins under Gregg Williams?

4. The OL this year was not good. A lot of that had to do with Jansen's injury, but they were not good. You can put lipstick on a pig and pretend it's beautiful, but it's still a pig. The OL wasn't very good this year.

Dockery improved over last year but he still has a LONG way to go to be above average.

Raymer is done.

Brown is a back-up at best.

Remember Vaughn Parker was going to be the answer and then he could not get himself into playing shape by the end of the year.

Samuels improved but is still not an elite OT.

Randy Thomas was the stellar performer on the OL; Sameuls was adequate and everyone else was sub-standard.

Bugel had only one year with these guys so I'll give him a pass for this year. But next year, there needs to be some significant improvments here.

Fine points, but not to nitpick except Cam Cameron is post-Gibbs

and what is he to say about Dockery and Samuels they suck, they are the worst players in the world a waste of skin? That would be a great way to build their confidence team chemistry and belief in the coaches system.

Nope, but call them out when they make mistakes and say they have ways to go - don't blindly praise them for the sake of encouragement.

I discovered that Parcells quote - asked about Terry Glenns performance in a game once, Parcells said, "yes, she had a rough day today". What did it do to Terry Glenns confidence and the team chemistry - Glenn went on to set the rookie record for catches that year!

Ok, not everyone can coach "tough love" style, and not every player reacts to it well, but calling Samuels and Dockery "special" isn't ok either, IMHO. Buges is known for chewing out linemen for blown protections/blocks...it just seems that he's gone a bit soft in this stint. Now, calling Randy Thomas something special is fine with me.

I do think that if there are not immediate improvements in the offense next season, there needs to be some strong consideration as to whether Gibbs should coach this team. Our horrid offensive performance this season cost us a playoff spot in an NFC that was as weak as it has been in recent memory. With all the talent we have on this team there is no reason why we could not muster a meager 8 wins to squeak into the playoffs. I place the vast majority of the blame on the coaching staff. I understand that they were looking to duplicate the success they had in their first stint, but I would think that they would be more apt to adjust than they were this season. If Gibbs can't adjust for next season, then I think he should hand the reins to Williams.

I believe we need to take this ESPN news piece with a grain of salt! Certainly if we wind up not having a great season next year...at least if we finish less than 8-8 this coming season, I would say Gibbs might have bit off more than he can chew....

Instead of getting back into a pointless debate on whether Gibbs still has it or not, I'm going to back him and have faith that he'll know what to do to turn this team into a winning team again.

I'm not looking too far into it. When he signed the 5 year contract, I honestly expected three out of him, and thats what I still expect. If he left after next season, I would be extreemley dissapointed. I aslo hope we keep everything "in the family" and Williams is our next coach.
