1) 11 years ago & under a different cba, the new rookie scale is much more cap friendly for teams to get top 10 picks

2) I'm looking at it the other way around, the Rams hold the clear shot at getting RGIII regardless of whether they want him. If you are the Browns, Redskins, Fins, etc. & you want him, you need to trade up to get him. If in fact the redskins make an offer to the rams or any other teams, that starts the bidding once word gets out to other teams. The skins will have reason to make an offer if they believe Miami or other teams are trying to trade to #4 & vice versa.

I don't think the Rams will have to even flirt w/the idea of taking RGIII, they just have to flirt w/the idea that they will trade the pick to a team that will.It's not like though that the new CBA has totally changed the value of a first round pick. The second overall player is going to be a lot more affordable than he was two years ago, but if teams thought before that players at the top of the draft weren't worth the money, they would have passed on those picks to save dough.

I think the surplus value of the no. 2 pick is a lot higher than it was two years ago, but that's also the case for the no. 4 and no. 6 and no. 9 and no. 11 picks as well. So the incentive to trade multiple (or future) first rounders for a high pick might actually be lower than it was two years ago, even if the picks are still more valuable.

I'm not sold on the fact that the second pick is destined to be a glorified RGIII auction, and I'm basing that on recent history. I think it becomes an auction if the Rams make it one, but setting a high asking price while you really are interested in Justin Blackmon just makes you like every other team that has held the no. 2 overall pick in the last ten drafts. Until the Rams come out and seriously considering drafting RGIII, they're just any other team with the second overall pick, and not a likely destination for RG3.

Good points, I would expect the rams to ask for a lot simply because they're in a position to. I can easily see us getting into the mix, at least trying to work out a deal even if in the end the price is deemed too high. I'm also assumng that RGIII stock continues to rise to the point that many rank him as the #2 prospect overall, not just #2 QB. Don't know how much personel power Fisher has w/the rams, but I would bet that he'd love to land a bunch of good picks at the expense of the #2.

True but he is the best RB prospect since AP, and while he is NOT my first choice I wouldn't be too pissed if we got him.


Seems they say that every year about some guy. That said, I think our RBs are more than capable of being play makers as Helu has shown this year. Not to mention with Hightower (if healthy)coming back and Royster? Simply no need to upgrade the last position that needs upgrades.

Here is how I would rank our positions by need right now:

1) QB
2) S/CB
3) OL
4) WR
5) ILB
6) NT/DL
7) RB
8) OLB
(2,3,4 could all be interchanged in terms of needing to be honest)

If we have a big time CB or OL on the board, then we should draft either one of those spots if we can't move up or decide not to spend a high pick on a QB like Tannehill or Noles. Picking Richardson is a luxury pick. One we can't afford due to needing talent at many positions, and RB not being one of those positions.

Mr. Griffin Goes to Washington

Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III heads to Washington Wednesday at the invitation of the president and first lady.

WACO (January 31, 2012)--Heisman Trophy Robert Griffin III heads to Washington, D.C. on Wednesday at the invitation of President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.

On Thursday Griffin will lead a prayer at the National Prayer Breakfast at the Hilton Washington International hotel.

Earlier this month, Griffin decided to pass on his final season of eligibility at Baylor to enter the NFL draft.

On Jan. 16, he flew to Arizona accompanied by his mother and fiancée to begin five weeks of intensive training at a sports performance facility.

The three will fly to Washington Wednesday where they’ll be joined by Griffin’s father who remained in Copperas Cove while his son trains.

From Washington, Griffin III heads to Indianapolis where he will take part in Super Bowl media events.

He hasn’t decided whether to attend the game Sunday, his parents said.

I really like RG3 a lot and I think that if he falls to us at 6, it would be a match made in heaven. I am not a fan of trading anything to move up to get him though. He needs time to develop and may not be best suited to start from day one and to move up and trade draft picks would only add pressure on him and not add talent around him.

I say part he falls to us, if not draft OT or CB that we really should be drafting anyway..

I also believe the Colts have made their minds up already to move forward without Peyton. The owner cleaned house and has his new coaching staff ready to start the Andrew Luck era. As far as the Redskins QB situation if Peyton is healthy we need to take a long look at him. The big question is which team would Peyton prefer to play for and how much would it cost to sign him. I rather take a healthy Peyton than give up multiple draft picks for RGIII who has never taken a NFL snap. The odds are RGIII will never be as good as Peyton Manning. The problem for us is we pick a #6 spot in the draft and only 2 QB's are worthy of a top 5 pick. We all know Luck is off the board at pick #1 so thus leaving only RGIII to at least 4 teams ( Browns, Redskins, Dolphins,Seahawks) looking for a franchise QB. The Rams will use every trick in the book to get 1 of those teams to bid against each other to raise the stock in the #2 pick. I think we have to many areas of need to give up so many picks to move up to pick#2. its a huge risk.

How about this if the Browns pick RGIII , would the Redskins be interested in giving up a 2nd or 3rd for Colt McCoy? I would try to get him for a 3rd pick and we could use a later rd pick on maybe Russell Wilson to compete for the starting job. We could use our 1st rd pick on a O-lineman, CB, or trade back for more picks.
