They are similar in that their methodologies for running their organizations seems haphazard and at times both insensitive to reason and completely aimless, but I would suggest that Ross' actual decisions don't dig the Dolphins into a hole the way Snyder's dig the Redskins.
Ross may or may not learn that no one feels comfortable when he is interviewing potential coaches and draft picks, because right now he's really hands on with that kind of stuff, and it reeks heavily of early Dan Snyder. But until he's actively digging the Dolphins a hole, I am willing to not call him a bad owner.
He sure looks the part though.
Give Ross some time. He's well on his way.

One of the Miami columnists - - probably either Dan LeBatard or Greg Cote - - said that Jeff Fisher chose the Rams over the Dolphins because Ross would not agree to give Fisher primacy in personnel decisions over Jeff Ireland. That colunmist said Ross chose the "wrong Jeff"...
Interesting perspective.
Ireland was a "Parcells guy" but seems to have transcended that regime with regard to the Dolphins.
Went to a couple of Fins games this year.....empty..

What I heard was Fisher wanted Ross to be the tie-breaker and Ross said no, if Fisher and Ireland disagreed they'd go with what Ireland chose. That Roas did not want to be involved

Why would you want a owner that had no background in coaching/player evaluation making the tie breaker? He would be better off flipping a coin. At least Ross was smart enough to stay out of it...lol

Or Fisher is old school (in the good way), which he is, and believed Ross would respond favorably to his maturity, methodology, and "magic" over Ireland's pedigree.
Ultimately Ross' decision to go "advantage Ireland" is probably the make or break decision of his first decade of ownership. Was Fisher's "underachievement" basically a result of facing the two greatest QBs in pro football history in every post-season for the past decade? Has Ireland learned enough from Parcells to achieve Parcells-like results? Or, if both Fisher and Ireland are future SB winning coaches/GMs...who wins first, who wins more?
IMO Ross failed. GTripp underestimates the importance of the decision. Ross may indeed be worse than Snyder at understanding the personality of a great pro football coach, which is not to be found in the typicall corporate executive both men came to know so well in their impressive careers.
IMO he's failed by 80/20 odds, but as the Zen master says...we'll see.
But it'd be nary a blip on the timeline graph of "Snyder's really bad decisions." Snyder can make bad decisions within bad decisions, he's gone all Leonardo Dicaprio/Inception up in this b!tch and we all need an epic "kick" to wake up from this ongoing nightmare!!! ;)

Dolphins hire Joe Philbin from Green Bay as their head coach.. Have to think they are the favorites for Matt Flynn as well now.
Hope we make a bid on Flynn just to drive the $$$ up.

This was my first thought as well. Which still could be to our favor if Matt Moore doesnt return. If we have to take someone like a Tannehill, Foles, Cousins, etc in the second round who may not be ready, Moore would be someone ideal to bring in and start.

Spags replaces G. Williams in New Orleans.
Saints hire Steve Spagnuolo as defensive coordinator - NFL - SI.com (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/football/nfl/01/19/saints.spagnuolo.ap/index.html?sct=nfl_t2_a13)
I think this is a really good pick up for NO. Spags is a really solid D Coor. Mostly, I am really glad he didn't go to Philly where some of the rumours had him going.
What's the over/under on how long J. Castillo survives as DC in Philly?

Ego/Power? If Ross is the tie-breaker they are closer to equals.
