Interesting take:

John: Greetings from China!* What is your take on Darrell Green returning to the Skins to coach the secondary?* Do you think he is serious?* Do you think Shanahan would welcome him?* What would be the fallout with the fans if he didn’t?

Allen

Allen: I’ll answer very loudly so you can hear me over there (it’s what my grandmother used to do on long distance calls). Sorry, bad schtick. *As for Darrell, I have a hard time believing he’s serious. If he was, he’d call the organization, offer to work his way up and then put himself in a position to be a secondary coach someday. Can’t decide on a whim to do this job. I wonder if Darrell has too many things going on in his life with his foundation to commit to the 16-18 hour days that it takes to be a pro coach. One reason Marty Schottenheimer wondered about him when he first arrived was because Darrell talked more about his off-field interests than the game itself. I like Darrell, but I have a hard time seeing this one happen. Would his wisdom help? Absolutely. My guess is Darrell would be happier working with guys one on one in the offseason than going through the grind of not just a season but the entire year. The guy has a lot to offer as a Hall of Famer. But I would not hire him to be a secondary coach without any experience that proves he’s a good coach and not just a former great player. We know he could play. Can he coach in the NFL? How would anyone know? There should be zero fallout over this; wouldn’t be fair to Shanahan.

^ I agree with the the Allen character. Could he be a really good position coach? yes, cause he has proven he can worth with other athletes and train them up as he did with Bailey and Fred Smoot. Maybe if nothing else Green could be hired to work with the DB's in the off season at Redskins park. Give them an off season program to develope their Skills at least for the young guys.

Any chance we can pay Jerry Rice to come in and work with the WR in the offseason? Maybe give both Green and Rice as Assistants. Between Green working with our young DB's and Rice working with the WR's and giving them a work out routine they would have to be 100x better then they were last year.

I keep hearing about Darrell Green's "leadership", but from what I gather, his teammates weren't that fond of him due to his "me" personality. I seriously doubt he'd make a good coach because I'm quite positive he still holds that type of "me" attitude.

Mike tice named OC in Chicago.

Around the NFL, Mike Tice's nickname is "Meathead". No one who calls him that means it in any offensive sense; Tice takes no offense...

However, I would like to point out that having a "Meathead" as your team's offensive coordinator might not be the best way to go...

Hall of Fame caliber players tend not to make good - - let alone great - - coaches. There are exceptions to be sure, but the percentages are small. In basketball Bill Russell and Billy Cunningham were exceptions.

In the NFL there have been more than a few Hall of Fame players who tried to make it in the coaching ranks with little if any success. These are off the top of my head so I am sure someone can come up with a more extensive list if they want to make the point:

Otto Graham
Bart Starr
Art Shell
Norm Van Brocklin
Forrest Gregg
Mike Singletary

MIke Ditka had success in Chicago but not so much in New Orleans...

Jury is still out on Mike Munchak...

Why are idiots still considering Wade Phillips for a head coaching position? Wade Phillips and Norv Turner should never ever ever be allowed to be head coaches again. (at least in the NFL) They are two of the best guys at their respective coordinator positions but absolutely suck balls as a head coach.

Hehehehe whenever I hear the 18 hr day bit coming out of badly coached teams the belly laughs won't stop. How does a coaching staff work 18 hours a day all week and then forget when to call timeouts, or manage the tempo on offense, or adjust the scheme, or have an idea of what he's challenging on a play, or...

My sister used to attend ken harveys church, and Darrell Green was there one sunday. They all ended up going out to lunch together, as my sister coordinates the usage of facilities at an area high school by a bunch of ex redskins and some current ones that hold some type of camp there each summer. (that was her "foot in" I suppose) She ended up getting both of their autographs for me on a napkin........a frikkin napkin, but anyways......

She told me that Darrell Green was the center of the conversation the entire time, on top of being very loud. She also said that Ken Harvey was the nicest man she has possibly EVER had the oppurtunity to meet.

It seems to me that he isnt really serious about the idea. If he were, then Im sure his connections at Redskins park could get him in to an actual meeting about having some type of interaction with our team or our secondary, whatever level it may be. Its not something you just comment about on twitter, and then "POOF", you are a positions coach. He was just typing, possibly frustrated and worried about the direction of our secondary, which any real fan should be.
