JWsleep 01-24-2005, 05:13 PM It's posted on the newswire, but I had to chime in on this. It is a GREAT article, from top to bottom. Wow, I miss those days. The ancedotes about Riggins are hilarious, and the stuff about practicle jokes on Mosley and Manley is pricless. Those were the days.
The depressing part was their (not at all surprising) feelings about Snyder. We should fax a few thousand copies of this piece to Danny-boy. If he really wants to recpature the glory, he could start by embracing the guys who made the skins great. The Hogs should have an honorary section of seats given to them for every game if they want them. Seeing Jacoby, May, Starke, etc. at Fed EX would help get the vibe right. And if Danny loves the skins as much as he claims, he ought to do this, or something like this. Show some RESPECT!!!!

FRPLG 01-24-2005, 05:15 PM There are parts of this article that almost bring tears to my eyes...
I usually like Simmons' articles but this is one of the greatest articles ever. Man what I'd give to have this back.
gortiz 01-24-2005, 05:26 PM How good was that article about the hogs? As much as I enjoyed reading that, I have to say it makes me sad that we will NEVER see a group of skins like that...not with Free Agency and with all the Leon's that exsist in football, and especially because of Snyder.
I can appreciate Dan Synder and his love of the skins, but I think he will never be a succesful owner, he just does not get it man...I don't have anything against the rich and famous, but the Skins and Gibbs for the longest time had always had a blue collar type of identity....Snyder has totally killed that. That is why WE ARE HORRIBLE at FedEx , that is why the Hogs do not like Snyder.
The Skins are like Wal-Mart, or Microsoft, we are way to damn corporate. I still love this team, but that is how I see it...
TheMalcolmConnection 01-24-2005, 05:31 PM The fans are just as blue-collar as ever. My favorite sports memories are watching games in FedEx and RFK.
gortiz 01-24-2005, 05:32 PM I put up my post right before reading yours....I'm not gonna repeat myself, but I agree, I somehow wish Danny could see that article...
I can only imagine though that he would look at his revenue and say the hell with the hogs and the fans, we are making $$$.
Do you think 10 years from now we will be able to read an article about Danny's skins and get all the same emotions and memories we get about the hogs, Riggo etc...??? I doubt it!

I don't want to lump everyone that goes to the games as yuppies, I go to at least 2 games a year every year, and I have fun at the stadium, and with the fans, no doubt, I just feel the entire culture of the skins changed quick...from Deon Sanders and charging for practices all the way to rumors about us getting a talented piece of crap like Moss....you notice how we are always first in line to get a free agent...thats sick.
azskinsfan2 01-24-2005, 08:11 PM What a great article, I was laughing my ass off and about to cry at the same time!!! I agree that Danny boy should really see that article but from what I read in it, it sounded like the Hogs felt about the same way with Jack Kent Cooke. That really surprised me. I had always looked up to him because he gave us the Hogs, Riggo, Gibbs etc. I had never read anything negative about him. :httr:
Gmanc711 01-24-2005, 08:25 PM That wa a great freaking article. It wa halarious. It just reminded me though, that I didnt get to experiance any of it.:(

You missed some of the most amazing football ever. The one thing that I want to see again from Gibbs is his ability to make gametime changes. I never saw a guy so good at coming back from halftime and taking absolute control of a ball game.
Gibbs knew the hogs inside and out and found ways to overmatch them against anybody they would play. What I mean is they would lineup and just exploit a weak spot in a defense and the defense would be helpless against it. It was a thing of beauty.

That IS sick that maybe the management doesn't characterize the "blue-collar" working attitude that defined the days of the Hog Era, but, all bias aside, Redskins fans are the most dedicated fans in the world (and friendliest at that). All of the games I've been to, I have gotten to know each person around me in a 5 seat or more radius, I still love the atmosphere, regardless of how the management handles things.
The charging does keep some dedicated fans from coming, but think of how dedicated you have to be to pay the ridiculous prices Snyder charges to see the team you love.
