I would equate that to a President giving some pardon to a criminal on his way out the door. It's essentially a gift to the current GM. Sure the next owner may very well decide to can the current GM (probably should), but he'd be on the hook for his contract most likely.
That's what I am getting at. And if this new owner cans Smith then the Jags could end up in the QB market.

I still believe the new owner is going to allow the current GM at least one year so he can sit back and take it all in. It's hard to come into a franchise, and just start chopping heads without knowing anything that's gone on or how things operate. Most of the time you'll have that period for the new guy to get acquainted with the surroundings and then start making changes.
Besides, it would be hard to sell to the fans that you are dropping Gabbert for a new shiny QB, when you didn't even give Gabbert a good chance. It might be a bit different if he were picked up in the 2nd and later rounds, but a high 1st round pick. Dunno..

Have you watched Gabbert play this year? He has some physical skills but he looks lost out there on anything other than the simplest pass plays.
Remember the the "deer-in-the-headlights" look that Patrick Ramsey used to have when Spurrier almost got him killed with some of those college patterns? Check out Gabbert next time you can...
Last week he was bad enough that Del Rio pulled him in the middle of the game. Knowing that the GM wanted Gabbert in the game and that the owner and the GM were "tight", he still pulled Gabbert. Del Rio is not a Hall of Fame coach by any means, but he is not a dunce either.
I'd say Gabbert looks more like Shuler than Ramsey right now.

It seems so odd to me that the GM would get a contract extension the day the team was sold. Why would an owner that never met him extend his contract? it almost seems like a golden parachute for Smith from Weaver.
Why would you assume they never met?

I love how people even consider the fact that the Jaguars won't be in LA .. i don't throw this out often but " Come On Man " ... this is as good as done ... that's tough to see a city lose a franchise I can't imagine what that must feel like to a die hard fan .. i know they don't draw well & all that but imagine your a 21 year old and you grew up rooting for the Jags and they up and move across country .. that's brutal ... that is why I always feel bad for the Browns
New owner lives in Illinois and is planning on buying a house in Jacksonville. I don't think they are going anywhere.
