Wow J.Trotter a key "great" linebacker in the playoffs and who let him go.... oh yeah us  . Now I see lets trade Lavar on this site come on man lets let the talent develop within the system. With film study and focus lavar would take over games. I hope we don't do something stupid like trade lavar or anyone else who indispensible on either offense or defense at the moment we are a player away from a championship, or atleast a playoff birth.

I think Ol' Jeremiah is quite a product of the system. He's asked to stop the run, and more often than not, that is all he does. I think the ESPN article gave him more praise than he deserved. I'd take our linebacking corps over him anyday.

Trotter is one of the league's best run-stuffers. Given that Gibbs emphasizes that the run is an essential component of any offense, we must recognize that the ability to shut it down is HUGE. Trotter is a damn good linebacker.
That said, our LB corps is excellent as is and Pierce is a better fit for our defense.

Completely agreed. I like the fact that Pierce can play the run AND the pass.

The average yardage gained per rush attemp against us was something like 3.1, I'm satisfied with that.

Trotter is overrated he hasn't done much. And I wouldn't say we exactly really missed him this year.

Nope and someone said that we have nowhere to go but down on defense. I disagree...there's two places above #3. :)

Trotter is a one-dimensional LB. In pass coverage, he can't cover a corpse.
But that was NOT his problem in DC. The problem here was his contract not his play. He wasn't worth what it cost to keep him here.
When he signed here, he was making more than Ray Lewis. Think about that for a moment and you'll realize the abject idiocy of the contract that the Skins gave him. That is why he had to be let go.
Instead of making an average of about $6-7M a year here, he is playing in Philly for $1M plus team incentives. Now at that price, Trotter is worth having on the roster. In the region above $5-6M per year, he isn't.

I still wonder why Trotter sucked so much for us??? Were not talking about a guy who was under appreciated here. He was given ample opportunity and either couldn't stay healthy or when eh wasn't he stunk it up for us with just average play. I am thinking he is product of the system too much like just about everyone on that defense. Think about it...who was the last guy to leave the Philly defense, go somewhere and be a force? I can't even think of anybody. Johnson is a very good coordinator obviously. They run basically the same type defense we do and we see what it did for a bunch of no name guys for us. Let's be honest, guys like Ryan Clark and Lemar Marshall are special teams guys on just about any team in the league except ours. On ours though they are solid contributors.
Let's not downplay the fact his injury played a big factor in his performance here. Plus we didn't use him the same way Philly does, he's an ideal fit in that defense. A system LB if I've ever seen one.
Williams knows a thing or two about defense, and he let Trotter go without even seeing him in person on the field. With the emergence of Pierce does anyone really miss Trotter??
