The 2010 Draft QB Class could be Historically Awful

Jamarcus Russell? So your comparing him to one of the top 2 or 3 QB busts of all time? That's flat out rediculous. Look at his rookie season. He played well last year...Russell never played well. Maybe he never pans out like me and some others think but he is already 1000 times better then Russell.Wait, who can honestly say that it's definitely going to get better from here? Bradford played well last year? I suppose he did when you consider he was a rookie, but their second years are basically identical. And that would seem to negate the idea that he performed great under the circumstances.

I'm not saying young players don't improve, and I had Bradford projected to be really good coming out of Oklahoma, but if he keeps playing like this, he's going to bust. Bradford needs to get a lot better. And it's unclear at this point whether his organization is going to be able to provide him much help.

The Rams should definitely give him more weapons/another year. But we shouldn't avoid being cautiously pessimistic here.

How is that a illogical fallacy? Steve Young sucked at Tampa Bay, but goes to a stacked San Fran team and becomes a hall of famer. The team surrounding the QB has a lot to do with how good they become or how hard they fail.

Sure, a player can go from a bad team to a good team and his numbers can improve immensely. I'm not looking to deal in hypotheticals though, at least not right now. Bradford is young enough where you can say Steve Young and I can say JaMarcus, and we can both be right, at least today.

You're essentially using the evidence to say, "players who suck on bad teams for two years can become Steve Young." And I'm really just trying to say that sometimes, they just become JaMarcus Russell. I'm not making any more of a prediction for Sam Bradford's future than you are, just making a comparison that holds to date.

No. I'm simply making the statement that there are a lot of factors in play that determine how good a QB can/will become.


Moving Jamarcus Russell to the Colts offense would probably result just the same due to his lack of desire.

And just because this QB class has been awful through two years doesn't necessarily mean it would continue to be. It just means that none of those guys are where those organizations thought they would be when they picked them, with perhaps the exception of the third rounder.

Maybe Russell wanted nothing more in life than to be a successful NFL QB. We simply can't assume that the black guy lacked desire, even though we do know that he wasn't successful at all.

The only thing we really know is that both got drafted first overall by awful teams and weren't good though two seasons. In Russell's case we know he regressed terribly in his third year and is now out of the league. That's the difference. The ending to Russell's story (I believe) has already been written.

Why was his race even mentioned? It's obvious from his weight and off-season habits he had no desire to get better at his craft. Three years after he was drafted #1, and he can't even sniff a chance at a roster spot even now at his young age. The below should give you some understanding on JR's character.

Bradford could eventually be a bust but the Russell analogy was a poor choice. Russell looked out of shape, lost and ill prepared in every game he ever played in. Bradford has already had a better career then Russell did.
