2012 QB Prospects (Part 2)

The solution is Tannehill, Keenum, or Moore and a mid round QB like Persa, etc in rounds 3-5. I am having flashbacks to 1994 when we got Shuler then Frerotte. Shuler sucked, and we brought in Frerotte to salvage something, and had a young Trent Green as backup. IF Tannehill doesn't pan out, a Dan Persa, or another starting QB of less reknown could be serviceable if not surprise us and be a Flacco. To be honest, I think we really get too much into the hype about QBs. Being a stud in NCAA Div I doesn't mean anything in the pros. How does a Heath Shuler or Ryan Leaf totally suck and a guy like Tom Brady become a stud? RG III could be a very good qb or he could suck in the pros. Same goes for Luck. Cam Newton and to a lesser extent Sam Bradford somewhat lived up to the hype, but for every one of those guys there are a dozen Joey Harringtons and Patrick Ramseys. No matter who we pick first, it is still a gamble.

I agree. If Shanahan really knows QBs like he claims, then he would just go with the safest selection. I saw flaws in Landry Jones game this year that I didn't see last season. He's still very accurate and putting up huge stats and QB ratings, but Landry Jones would be either hit or miss. Matt Barkley would be the safest draft choice. He's everything you want in a QB. Luck is the best of them all and is great too, but unless Bruce Allen makes a bold trade, I don't see the Redskins landing Luck. And lastly, Robert Griffin III is extremely talented. He has the makings of a tremendous pro quarterback. I'm sure Mike Shanahan, as much as a mirco managing coach talent evaluator that he is, will take RG3 into high consideration.

I only saw a little of Stanford's game last night but what I saw reaffirmed to me that Andrew Luck has everything one could possibly want in a NFL QB. He should be outstanding for the Colts.

Every time I see Barkley play, he is the college QB I can best envision running the Skins offense.

These two QB's are as close to "can't miss" prospects as it gets.

I also think that Landry and RGIII have what it takes to be NFL starting QB's.

I know this sounds like a broken record, but here I go again: I believe that it is very important to the future of the Redskins that at least three of these four QB's are in the upcoming NFL draft because the down year we are having, the one benefit of which should be high draft picks, may give us the only realistic chance we'll have for years to acquire a young Franchise QB.

Ya I could definitely see that. Only because he and USC are this good against great teams like Stanford and Oregon, beating one and barely losing to the other. He wanted to win a bowl game at USC. Thats why I see him staying. I also remember seeing that Matt Kalil, USC's great LT, said that he and Barkley are a package deal to the NFL (he goes, I go. He stays, I stay).

However I could also see him leaving USC being that;
He still entertains the draft talk idea and doesn't shoot it down. He's putting up numbers that are having some scouts saying, he could be better than Luck. His numbers can't get much better. Also when you return for your senior year, your always risking yourself from getting injured. Nowhere have I seen Barkley say "Ya I'm coming back next year."

Since he finished his season on a high note I could see scouts saying he's a top 5 pick, which may just be enough. Plus with Seattle and Washington in the top 5, more than likely, I could see him being wanted to be drafted by one of these teams, rather than a team like Cleveland for example. Remember Mark Sanchez wanted to return to USC the next year to play for the national championship and was 'definitely' returning to USC the next year. He later declared for the draft about a week later...

Please don't mislead others by stating that as if it is a fact. It is not a fact. We don't know one way or the other.

Luck will be picked #1. And say that Barkley (which would also mean Khalil), Jones, and RGIII all decide to stay in college and we end up picking say 5th in the first round who do we take? That to me seems like a very interesting question. I'll probably get burned here for stating a hypothetical.

I think I would want Claiborne from LSU, would be a chance to have a lockdown cb that we havent had since when we had Champ at the beginning of his career.

Great question and point. I would take either a lockdown CB like Claiborne ( or Dre Kirkpatrick) or I would trade down, and get Vontaze Burfict and a CB in the 2nd round, like a Janoris Jenkins or Cliff Harris. I would draft Nick Foles later either 2nd or 3rd round and get Kellen Moore. I would see what Matt Flynn wants in FA too. If I see no sign of improvement from the QB's in that year, I'm getting Barkley or Griffin.

Lane Kiffin believes Barkleys gone

With the Coliseum crowd repeatedly chanting "One more year!" Barkley was brilliant in what might have been the junior's final game at USC. He went 35 for 42 and set a Pac-12 record with his 39th touchdown pass early in the fourth quarter, hitting Woods from 41 yards out to surpass Leinart's mark. Barkley also surpassed his own school record set earlier this year with 35 completions.

Barkley and left tackle Matt Kalil are near-certain first-round NFL draft picks, but they claim they haven't decided whether to return for their senior seasons and a shot at a national title with a team that's likely to be among the nation's most talented next year despite severe NCAA scholarship restrictions that start in 2012. Barkley again declined to speculate on his decision, saying he'll figure it out soon.

"Unless he wants to do it, just to be a special Trojan, he ain't coming back," Kiffin said. "He's every bit ready to go to the NFL. It's just going to be a decision, does he want to do something really unique? He might be the guy to do that."
