Nobody that gets the #1 spot is going to trade it away. It doesn't matter if the Colts do get it, they are going to select Luck and prepare him for the future. I would and they'd be stupid not to. You don't know how Manning's health is going to pan out, and you've seen how important the QB spot is now. Nobody has a shot in hell at trading for Luck. I think there is a better chance in Israel and Iran becoming allies than anybody getting a trade for Luck.

Never say never man. I'm not gonna start getting hyped up about potential qb's until the season is over and the draft rankings have been solidified.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. We have a very good chance at getting Andrew Luck, without having the first overall pick

I can easily see the 2004 draft all over again.

Theres no way luck doesnt go number 1

With the rookie wage scale, it is easier now for teams to keep the #1 overall. Although the Colts FO already made a huge gaffe by giving Manning a ton of money with a questionable neck, so you never know if they'll make another mistake.

I think that contract was more of a past performance pay as well. Also, Manning had the team put in a opt out clause in case his health was a issue and it would save the team money. Polian is one of the best in the business, and I expect him to continue being so.

I will say this. I think there will be several good QBs we can make our franchise QB in the upcoming draft so I don't believe it's a "Luck or nothing" type of deal.

Good points. And yes, Luck is not the end all and be all, we need a lot of help.

Exactly. This team needs talent at nearly every position except OLB, K, and P.

I'm saying if we have the #4 overall pick, we trade for the #1. I'm pretty sure the colts would take it and be satisfied with a Barkley or Landry Jones. (I don't care for either though.)

Considering they had that very same option back when they drafted Manning (Leaf), I doubt they do anything different this time either.

Why is it that the Colts would be satisfied with Barkley or Jones but we would be so dissatisfied with them that we would want to trade up? Do we have much more discerning taste than the Colts?

I think it is reasonable instead to believe that the Colts would want Luck as badly as we do. Both teams need their QB of the future.

Start the chant ...

TRADE DOWN! TRADE DOWN!

There are 4 1st round grade QBs available possibly... (Luck, Barkley, Jones, RGIII)... trade down, grab one, get more picks sp we can grab 3 O-Linemen, some CBs and Safeties while we are at it!

We need more than Luck people! Literally AND figuratively!

He's no "absolute lock." You can't guarantee he's going to be THAT much better than those other 3... (see Andy Dalton, 5th QB picked this year).

You are talking wisely. Vinny has put us in a situation we can't afford to get Luck but need to trade down for above average talent on the OL and defensive backfield and another LB. A solid QB in the later part of the 1st round or 2nd after trading down several times can work and we can get OL and a QB. I would even take the QB from TCU. And then the others.
