CultBrennan59 11-16-2011, 10:52 PM I wouldn't be against this at all, but let's not forget that we were optimistic of John Beck and Rex Grossman this year. Should we really go that route again?
Exactly, go with the unknown, not the known.
My problem with Landry Jones is that a buddy of mine who graduate from OU and watches their games religiously, says that he doesn't like him and that he's really not that good, that his receivers make him look a lot better than he really is. He said that when the games on the line he throws picks. He also said that he tends to overthrow--or underthrow receivers a lot. I've watched about 6 Oklahoma games in the past 2 years, and from the few I've seen....he's right.
Now does he have NFL traits and qualities, Definitely. No question about it. But based on what I've seen from him, I'd rather get an experienced Nick Foles, throw in all my chips for Andrew Luck, or take Robert Griffin lower than from where we pick, than get Landry. (I'd also take Kellen Moore in all those scenarios except the Luck one.)
SirClintonPortis 11-16-2011, 10:59 PM Ok, so if we have a chance to draft a Matt Barkley or Landry Jones, who both have undeniable upside compared to Daniels, would you do it? Or would you prefer a Blackmon/Jeffrey + Daniels combo..
I would definitely have to think long and hard.
I don't follow college ball. Hence, I have no information to make any decision on a prospect.
I'd take the better QB, every time. You can find WR elsewhere, if your scouts are good and you know what to look for. But, the QBs must grade out well, or else I ain't taking one.

I used to be a big sooners fan when Bradford was there, watching them was a priority for me each week.. But yeah I have no interest anymore. Bradford is on a completely different level compared to Jones, but NFL teams know that. I agree though, Jones has a weird throwing motion, weird footwork, his arm strength is questionable, his athleticism isn't very good and he's just sort of awkward in general.
I see it as:
Luck
Barkley
RG3
Tannehill
Weeden
Jones

You're comparing John Beck to Chase Daniel and I'm letting you stay on this board...I must be getting soft :)
Seriously though, I think in his brief playing time here and in New Orleans Daniel has shown far more than Beck ever did (of course, I might be bias) and he's considerably younger.
My thing is we need two new QBs. So instead of drafting 2 with no NFL experience. Draft one and get another veteran (young veteran with upside). Take SS33's suggestion as an example. Draft Kalil in the first, add Tannehill in the late 1st, or more likely early 2nd and sign Daniel.

ehhhh Daniels was solid from what I remember, but I haven't followed him since.
I like that scenario though, but Tannehill is quickly becoming a top guy for the draft, he's going to make some team very happy.

Like your friend I watch every snap of Landry Jones and I think he's right to a degree but a little tough on him as well, Is Jones on the same level as Bradford? NO but I think one more season at OU which will likely happen could help him over the long haul.

You keep calling him Daniels just to mess with me don't you

Actually one of the least cocky OU players I've ever talked to and I've pretty much met all the players, he's never been a dick and always has a great attitude to him.

SS tell them they don't know anything about Chad Daniel
