Sex Abuse Scandal Rocks Penn State

It just goes to show that College Football is put above everything else. Some of the most deplorable acts known to man are swept under the rug by otherwise intelligent, successful men just to avoid damaging the program and all the money it brings in. Sickening.

The fact that the graduate assistant (a 28 year old man at the time) walked into shower room and saw Sandusky bending over a 10 year old and didn't go straight to the cops.... WTF? Or the fact that the university knew this stuff was going on and all they did was take Sandusky's keys?

It's a shame a coach that has done so much good for the sport is gonna go out like this... but I don't see how this doesn't end with Joe Pa stepping down. It has too.

You know Sandusky was being courted by the Terps but turned it down, reportedly, because of the foundation he was running.

Read the 23 page indictment here (I did- it's not for the faint of heart- I wanted to throw up):

Jerry Sandusky arrested: Grand jury report - The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/sports/documents/sandusky-grand-jury-report11052011.html)

un-f-ing real, i really have no way to exprss how i feel after reading that. i have been listening to the radio and hearing about it all day, but this is the first time i read the indictment. there really isn't a punishment that could fit this crime. i have always said chilid molesters are by far the WORST type of person on the face of the earth. i hope he rots in a dumpster some where, what a ****in piece of shit.

http://www.thewarpath.net/other-sports/43855-official-2011-college-football-thread-3.html

FYI, it was being discussed in the college football thread, but I too figured it was definitely own thread worthy. I've already discussed my thoughts on the matter in there, but to make a long story short I pretty much agree anybody involved in this, or knew anything whatsoever and failed to do anything about needs to be disbarred from the program, JoePa included.

It's beyond me how someone could witness such a deplorable and sickening act and not immediately think, holy shit I need to call the cops, this is disgusting. You're more of a man than I am Scud, because I just read the ESPN article and felt like I couldn't read anymore. No way I'm touching that 23 page report. As soon as I heard about the oral/anal in the lockerroom, etc., I felt just stunned that people could witness these things and just pass it on to the next guy, without thinking twice about calling the cops.

And I highly doubt it was just 8 kids, this is just the beginning, by the time every last kid comes forward you could be looking at triple or quadruple that number. I mean I can't believe after JoePa heard about this, it never crossed his mind that this ****ing sick sexual predator ran a foundation that was probably his main source to young boys. There's no ****ing justice possible for all the kids who are probably traumatized to this day, and it's a serious disservice to those people who work hard to help out at-risk kids every day with good intentions.

I was pretty surprised a thread hasn't been started on this yet.

We were talking about in the the official college football thread, but yeah, this deserves a thread of its own for sure.

Sickening listening to PSU fans claiming none of this is on Joe Paterno. /facepalm

So they knew he had sexual abuse allegations against him back in '98, and then had the assistant tell him of a incident between Sandusky and 10 year old boy. So Joe lets one person knows, continues to allow Sandusky on campus and around kids, and doesn't follow up on it or question anything? You shitting me? Joe better be glad its not my kid.

I can imagine the civil suits against Penn State are going to be costly. They should bleed them dry. Every single penny the football program receives should be going to those families and to child molestation prevention causes.

Joe Pa couldn't have had anything to do with this cover up. Look at how much money he raises from boosters for the football program.

I'm going to pretend I didn't see this stupid statement.

This is another case I support the death penalty for. Then again, being in jail as a child molester will be much more torture.

Lol. Part of me knows I shouldn't joke about this but it's so appalling that I at least have to do something to lighten the mood.

And there is some truth to what I said. Part of the reason Joe Pa has stayed as head coach for so long is he brings in a ridiculous amount of money from boosters. Penn State for years has been easily one of the most well funded football programs in the country, maybe even the most well funded, and apparently a huge part of that is Joe Pa's ability to solicit donations from boosters.

Anyway heres what I think should happen.

First they need to make sure that none of his kids were abused. This line scares the shit out of me

Since retirement, Sandusky has hosted many summer football camps and remains involved in The Second Mile, a children's charity he founded in State College, Pennsylvania in 1977.[6] His son, Jon Sandusky, serves as Director of Player Personnel for the Cleveland Browns.[7][8] Another son, E.J., is an assistant football coach at West Chester University.
Sandusky is married and has six adopted children.[9]

Second enough money needs to be set aside to make sure his wife and remaining minor children have enough money to send the kids to college..

After a necessary amount is determined the rest of his estate and assets should go to paying for pain and suffering towards every kid he's convicted of molesting.

Also Penn State should be held liable. They should be forced to pay for therapy, which unfortunately for all the victims needs to be mandatory since at the very least this experience untreated will put them all at risk for drug abuse, suicide, depression, and violence.

After that Penn State should also be forced to pay out settlements no less then six figures for every child for pain and suffering and also be forced to pay for the victims future college education at the school of their choice. The money they've gotten for football should make that easy.

Penn State football should also get double the punishment USC got for the Reggie Bush scandal. The only reason to keep them bowl eligible is to help raise more money for the victims.

Finally Joe Paterno needs to resign.

This whole incident is unacceptable.

Shocking. I didnt read indictment because after reading a couple articles dont really want to read anymore. Im surprised it isnt as big of a story as it seems to be yet in the news. Tons of headlines are saying things like this is gonna chip away or tarnish his legacy.... Really thats it? He allowed a child predator to persist and is lying that he knew anything about it. Maybe i need to wait for more details to come out, but it sounds like joe was told about this and didnt do anything. I wonder how many more kids got raped when he looked the other way? Ive always been a big fan but if Paterno doesnt step down immediately hopefully the new AD will fire him immediately and anyone else who even heard rumors of this shit going on.

Amazing someone can see that kind of stuff first hand and not run to report it to the police. Or how when someone reports it to a higher up they dont immediately report it the police. Its like telling your boss the next day that there was a fire in the lockeroom, you dont do that, you just call the fire department immediately or try and put it out yourself. I mean what is there to think about or consider? Everyone that didnt report the rapes enabled future rapes of children to take place later on. Sick.

It does however make you think about the psychology or thought of a person seeing that kind of stuff happen and not intervening, calling the police or speaking up or doing anything about it when its effectively swept under the rug by someone above you. The power of conformity when people above you or your peers all look the other way has to play a roll in this. I think its easy for all of us to say we would have intervened or ran to the police, but when regular people from a janitor to a grad assistant to a wrestling coach all see things and dont report it maybe its harder to do what seems so intuitive otherwise.
