Its an analogy, not a direct player comparison, and I kind of agree with it.

They both pretty much play the exact same role for their teams both position and leadership wise. While Lewis is obviously the better player and Baltimore’s defense is also much better I would agree that our defense would be affected in a similar manor as the Ravens d if both were missing their premier player and leader.

I understand your analogy - - but I think it is a bit less direct a comparison than you make it out to be. Thanx for explaining.

True, it can be read either way.

If we really do tank this year, he will bolt. Sorry guys, but he is getting up there, and if he does want to play I think he will go for a real contender, even if it is a lot less money, if he doesn't flat out retire. A loss to the hapless Dolphins will be the capstone to what will be an epic fail of a season. London might want to play now, but after 7-8 more losses and no hope in sight I would retire or bolt if I was him. Even if the QB we draft next year works out you are looking at waiting 2-3 more seasons to be a contender, as we have more holes than swiss cheese to fill on this roster. Fletch doesn't have that long.

This is an excellent piece in the Washington Post - - well written.

My fear is not that London Fletcher will quit on this defensive unit; I do not think he would know how to do that even if that thought happened to cross his mind. Since first time I saw him play with the Rams, he has played linebacker the same way - - all out, every play.

My fear is that if the season goes totally in the tank - - say with a record of 4-9 in mid-December - - then others on the defensive unit might start to "mail it in". THAT SITUATION would be something that could convince Fletcher to look around for another employer next season; he might be able to tolerate the losing a little bit but I think he might not be able to tolerate seeing others on the defense "checking out early".

1.5 mil? This isn't the old days anymore, and he's making what, like 5 mil a year this time around? Keep him at 5 mil per year.

True, Carlos Rodgers left here for a $4 million/1 year deal. I guess I'd go somewhere in the neighborhood of $4-$5.5 million/1 year. We really need him around to teach the apparent incumbent for the MLB position how to play it in the 3-4 and/or be a leader like Fletch. I'd get Burfict in the first round (Foles in the second). If not we could get a ILB in Free Agency. But in all honesty I would get that many guys in FA because thats NOT how to build a team, that to just fix some of the cracks. Look at why Pittsburgh, Green Bay, San Diego(maybe not this year but past years), Indy (ditto for SD), New England have been successful, they go out and get a max of 2 guys in free agency and build through the draft.

More holes to fill on a team still trying to find an identity...

I'm going to take the other side and think of it from London Fletcher's perspective. Wouldn't you pretty much take any deal you could get to join Gregg Williams and the Saints? You get a shot to win a title, you're playing for a coach you adore, and you're in a system you can run and fits you to a T.

Gregg would move Vilma to OLB for Fletcher.
