That was four years ago, never crossed my mind either.
Laron Landry = Lavar?Alvin Walton 11-04-2011, 07:13 AM That was four years ago, never crossed my mind either. freddyg12 11-04-2011, 09:58 AM same here, wasn't thinking of ST either. Interestingly, his first few years he had similar issues w/discipline in coverage & sadly in his final year he'd lost weight & really became the elite safety we knew he could be. mlmdub130 11-04-2011, 06:44 PM did not think that either, i do think LL might have hit his ceiling though. each year we keep wanting to see him make that next step to becoming an elite safety, but i just don't see that happening anymore. i think he is still a top safety in the nfl and an asset to this team though. Mechanix544 11-04-2011, 06:59 PM I dont know about top safety in the nfl. Maybe top 12. Too one dimensional, gets beat way too often to be considered in the top 5 at his position. Big hitter though, prolly biggest SS hitter in the league. but id take a smart very fast ss over one that ALWAYS goes after the big hit. mooby 11-04-2011, 08:39 PM Is there a "Sean Taylor" effect? Meaning have people set an expectation of we look to LL to be what Sean Taylor was becoming? Not for me, I mean it's been 4 years, it's time to let it go. After his good start last year I expected him to take the next step since he returned from injury this year, but so far he hasn't. SmootSmack 11-04-2011, 09:07 PM I don't think I quite worded it right, but oh well mooby 11-04-2011, 11:17 PM I don't think I quite worded it right, but oh well I was under the impression that you meant that we had started to expect LL to be a top tier strong safety in the same way we saw ST become a top tier free safety in the first half of the 07 season. Not, do we expect LL to become the next ST. If the first instance is the case, then yes, it's fair to say that at this point in his career I expected LL to start fulfilling all his potential talent. He had a great first half of the season last year which I expected to carry over to this year once he got healthy again. Unfortunately that hasn't been the case. LL has all the talent, but it doesn't seem like he has the right mentality in how to approach the game. He needs to hit that film room and start analyzing everything, from the way he plays the game, to the miscues he has, to the way Troy P. plays the game. Shit, consult Troy P. up if need be. Get inside his mind, and pick his brain. For whatever reason I feel like we have just seen LL expect his physical talent to translate to success on the field, and he's not working that hard on the mental aspect of it. SouperMeister 11-06-2011, 10:43 PM If Landry spent half as much time in film study as he reportedly does honing his physique, then he might make that leap to elite strong safety. Nomad 11-07-2011, 07:18 AM What Reed D. Is the answer? Sonny9TD 11-07-2011, 09:25 AM What Reed D. Is the answer? No but trading Laron and Rocky would be. It would help the salary cap and the team. Unless we just keep Rocky to just rush the QB on 3rd down if we have the luxury. |
