freddyg12 10-19-2011, 02:32 PM He fumbled a lot I believe back in 2007 as well. 7 times in 4 games, or something like that. Can't let that happen
Someone, I think on wash post forum, said they were at the game & noticed that Beck's passes are often wobbly, not a tight spiral. That comment made me wonder if his hands are just small & he often slightly loses grip as he begins to throw?
The fumble on sunday looked like a case of simple clumsiness & nerves, trying to move fast & make a decision. I'm not too worried about that, I'm more worried about how well he throws the ball w/several blitzers about to pounce on him. He didn't throw well under pressure in the last preseason game, v. the iggles they didn't bring too many after him. At least he can run!
htownskinfan 10-19-2011, 02:42 PM Interesting the different QB decisions The Genius Shanahan Brain Trust has made since they've been here:
1) Decides not to re-sign Campbell
2) Trades a 2nd round pick (and another pick, I forget which round) for Donovan McNabb
3) Trades for John Beck
4) Signs Rex Grossman
5) Benches Donovan McNabb (then has a disastrous presser explaining why)
6) Starts Rex Grossman the remainder of 2010
7) Trades Donovan McNabb for a side of rice pilaf
8) Praises John Beck in the offseason like he's God's gift (Kyle wanted him 10th overall in Houston, etc etc)
9) Starts Rex Grossman after an open competition in camp
10) Benches Rex Grossman 5 weeks into the season (I agree with this decision wholeheartedly)
11) Names John Beck the starter.
WHEW!! Let's hope he starts hitting on some of his quarterback decisions.
All great points.1 thing you forgot to add is signing Mcnabb to a new contract after benching him,I think Shanahan is not near what he's cracked up to be,he's an average coach at best and even worse talent evaluator.
Didnt Dan Reeves mostly put together the team that Shanahan had his success with?
tryfuhl 10-19-2011, 02:45 PM Good. Hopefully, we'll see improvement in the situational O playcalling to protect Beck a bit until he settles in.
Hopefully.. like when Kitna took over for Romo and Garrett called plays around Kitna's game and they improved
KS is a whole different beast though.. I think that MS needs to get more involved in the next couple weeks' gameplan

Didnt Dan Reeves mostly put together the team that Shanahan had his success with?Shanahan certainly was not great in Denver, and got off to a poor start in some respects here as a "GM". However, it seems the situation here has a more "shrewd" FO since he has at least one subordinate he can take some advice from, Bruce Allen being one of them.
GMScud 10-19-2011, 03:06 PM There was no other choice. He turned over the ball 2.3 times for the past eight games. He is what he has always been - the year he went to the Superbowl, he had 20 INTs and lost five fumbles. In the last seven games of that season, he turned the ball over eighteen times. The Chicago Bears got where they were that year because of their D; they got there because the D that allowed less than 100 yards per game showed up EVERY game (unlike ours), and could overcome Rex's turnovers.
We are very lucky we are not 1-4 instead of 3-2 because of his mistakes. He needed to be sat in the corner ever since the Dallas game when it was apparent to everyone in the world watching MNF that he was STILL the same Rex whose two INTs and two fumbles constantly shifted momentum back to the Colts in Superbowl XLI - who eventually took over that game and almost blew the Bears out in the 4th.
Yeah people talk about how he went to a SuperBowl... Remember how Lovie Smith had to reiterate just about every damn week that "Rex is our Quarterback" to the media? That's called winning in spite of someone, not because of them.
I don't think Rex is terrible overall as an NFL QB, but at this point I don't think he's starting material either. He's where he needs to be, now. Holding a clipboard. Hey, it could be worse. He can spend the next 5 or 6 years chilling on an NFL sideline making in the neighborhood of $1M/season.
IRISHSKIN24 10-19-2011, 03:08 PM Where are the bells and rays of sunshine sneaking through the clouds while making this announcement?
The Book of John has begun!
John Beck will be the next morman QB in the NFL to go to the SUPER BOWL!
He will have as many touchdowns as he has wives
John Beck: The Stormin' Mormon!
tryfuhl 10-19-2011, 03:20 PM The thing that got me in the preseason was Beck staring down receivers. I'm sure that there were a lot of plays designed to specifically target some wideouts but some of those over the middle passes wouldn't cut it in the regular season.
anyways hope he does well for us.. if not we were looking at mediocre to a bit above it anyways
I believe some Admin type guy banned him.
"I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me (John 14:6). I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? (John 11:25-26)"

saden1 10-19-2011, 03:42 PM This team is in the danger-zone right now...
The path of the Redskins is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the injuries and the tyranny of evil opponents. Blessed is he who, in the name of intelligence and good QB play, shepherds the weakened team through the valley of darkness, for he is truly the fan's keeper and the finder of lost wins.
God help us!
