Wide variety of coaching candidates available - NFL - Yahoo! Sports (http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news?slug=jc-cole_2012_nfl_coaching_candidates_111011)

Potential HC Candidates include Jim Useless, and Shanahan II? Say it ain't so!

I don't see HC potential in either one, frankly! Can we all say: OVERRATED!!!

That list is...speculative to say the least lol.

G Williams 3rd year in New Orleans has certainly been disappointing especially given the talent they added in FA and draft over the last two years.

I remember when Dick Vermeil was hired to coach the Rams in 1997, here is his record.
1997 ( 5-11)
1998 (4-12)
1999 (13-3) Super Bowl Champs
His first 2 seasons everyone was calling for him to be fired, he cant coach any more etc...
He left to coach KC and here is his record
2001 (6-10)
2002 (8-8)
2003 (13-3)
2004 (7-9)
2005 (10-6)

I think Dick Vermeil is simular to Mike Shannahan during his career. Dick Vermeil won 1 Suoer Bowl with Kurt Warner and had success with Trent Green in KC.
Vermeil coached the Eagles from 1976-1982 and went to the Super Bowl in 1980 with Ron Jaws as his QB, They lost to the Raiders. Looking at his success Vermeil had a Great QB in Kurt Warner 2 good QB's in Green and Jaws.
Shanny needs to get his QB to get this franchise back to winning.

My intuition is after Shanny leaves or gets fired there will be disclosure at some point he wasn't doing much with the team. The players clearly aren't motivated, inspired by him and there's no way the offensive scheme and overall coordination could really be this bad with a full-time HC.

...Mike has always been a money guy and I really doubt he's much concerned with the team's performance while earning a guaranteed $5 mil per year. Perfect circumstances gave him two championships.

My sentiment exactly. How to you watch film and not know McNabb throws dirt balls, or Grossman throws INTs for no reason, or Doughty is horrible at safety. They act like they are surprised at these things.

Not sure he is a "top CB" now. 64 CBs start every week in the NFL. Just a guess but there are at least a dozen - - and probably 20 that are as good or better than he is.

he never was... I, too, will take the over.

Mike Shanahan is a very good coach. But his job becomes 1000% harder when he makes personnel decisions. If he concentrated on just being the head coach, then the Redskins would be a much better team. Since Bruce Allen is the GM, I've always wondered just how much he's involved in player evaluations, scouting potential collegiate players and free agents, and acquiring players in general. I'm not saying that a head coach can't be the head coach and be in charge of his roster, but does anyone have enough braincells to be able to do both jobs?

I say do it the way it's supposed to be done. Let Bruce Allen choose the players, and let Mike Shanahan coach them.

I was going to start a new thread on this but now I dont feel like putting in the effort. Most of the bitching on this thread has been about the Shanahans, but what about Haslet?
Last yr the skins & texans were 2 of the worst if not the worst defenses in football.Skins had switched to 3-4 as we all know and it didnt work out well.
This yr the texans switch to a 3-4 with a new coach and no offseason to work on it.Theyre number 1 in the nfl on defense without their star player Mario Williams. So in less than a season Wade phillips has turned that defense around and we still suck.
Do you think its coaching? I dont see a big talent difference in the 2 teams.Or is it our offense sucks so ****ing bad the defense is not getting enough rest?

I don't really know who's fault it is, but the defense has given up some pretty inexcusable drives lately.
