SmootSmack 11-07-2011, 04:28 PM A rose by any other name... GMScud 11-07-2011, 06:46 PM More than Shanny had when he took over that's for sure. True, but when given square pieces, Harbaugh does a great job of making the holes square to fit them in. Good D, good running game- manage it well and don't force Alex Smith to win or lose the game for you. He's done a fantastic job at adjusting the game plans to accentuate his players strengths. Shanahan- not so much. He did a better job yesterday with the quick throws, but overall, he's trying to force his system, and not really adjusting. Ruhskins 11-07-2011, 06:50 PM Speaking of coaching, kudos to Wade Smith for turning the Texans into a top D: "AlbertBreer Albert Breer Absolutely stunning: The Houston Texans have the NFL's No. 1-ranked defense. They were 30th last year. Amazing work by Wade." But I guess the Texans were able to do this because they have a potent offense. I really thought the move would be a waste of Mario Williams, but when he was healthy he played well. CrustyRedskin 11-07-2011, 07:15 PM Apparently we're not rebuilding... dcsportsbog Dan Steinberg Shanny tells Grant Paulsen he doesn't even know what he means by "rebuilding." RickMaese Rick Maese Shanahan doesn't use word "rebuilding." Says young guys are in there because of injuries #redskinswp ...or maybe we are! dcsportsbog Dan Steinberg And now Shanahan says he told Kyle two years ago they were going to have to rebuild the football team. I bet he also told Kyle we're going to DC to fatten our bank accounts!! rebuilding asskickin, whats the freaking difference. musicmaster45 11-07-2011, 07:24 PM NFL.com news: Shanahan warned son Kyle not to take Redskins' OC job (http://www.nfl.com/news/story/09000d5d823e2286/article/shanahan-warned-son-kyle-not-to-take-redskins-oc-job?module=HP11_headline_stack) Interesting. Kyle choose to be here and Mike only kinda wanted him skinster 11-07-2011, 07:29 PM I still don't understand this. If the Shanahan's were going to install an offensive system regardless of the roster, then building up the offense should've been the priority. There were an enormous amount of holes on both sides of the ball. It was simply deemed that there were more on defense considering the switch in schemes. Plus I'm still convinced that 75% of any given offense is the qb, wich we do not have. Peyton Mannings absence this year proves that IMO. We simply didn't think that there was anyone good enough to pick up/draft this offseason. We're not going to take someone we think will be bad because we already have someone who is bad. That's dumb. Plus there's been way more injuries to the offense than defense. Longtimefan 11-07-2011, 07:32 PM More than Shanny had when he took over that's for sure. We will eventually come to the realization that this is a process that's going to take time to complete. Shanahan has been reluctant at times to use the word "rebuilding", but it's clear, situations and circumstances have forced him to go with younger players that are gaining valuable experience. This is what rebuilding looks like (http://www.csnwashington.com/blog/redskins-talk/post/This-is-what-rebuilding-looks-like?blockID=589260&feedID=6458) GTripp0012 11-07-2011, 07:32 PM More than Shanny had when he took over that's for sure.I think this is fallacious. Shanny took over a team that had Jason Campbell, Clinton Portis, Santana Moss, Chris Cooley, Fred Davis, Albert Haynesworth, Andre Carter, Brian Orakpo, London Fletcher, Carlos Rogers, DeAngelo Hall, and LaRon Landry. That core was as talented as any core that changed its coaching staff over in the last two seasons. I think it would be correct to say that that core hasn't produced very much in the Shanahan era. But plenty of the blame for that lies in who they decided to keep and who they decided to jettison. And if Harbaugh had taken the job and decided to start gutting the roster of talented guys who didn't fit his scheme: dumped Smith, traded Vernon Davis, benched Crabtree, brought in some veterans to fill holes on defense instead of playing young guys like Navarro Bowman, Ray McDonald, Ahmad Brooks, and Ricky Jean-Francois, I think it's safe to say the 49ers wouldn't be 7-1 and seriously eyeing the super bowl. But whose fault would that be? Mike Singletary's fault? Trent Baalke's fault? I guess. In a world where the current guy is never responsible for the state of the roster, you have to find a scapegoat I suppose. skinster 11-07-2011, 07:32 PM They(coaches) are trying to make chicken salad out of chicken poop but Harbaugh's chicken salad looks great. 3 first round o-linemen, Pro bowl back, pro bowl TE, two WR's taken in the top 10. Given Alex smith isn't good, I don't think we can say its the same tools around him. I don't think it will be good chicken salad untill they get get a better qb, but the pieces around him prevent them from being chicken poop. Plus when comparing us to them, we need to take into account injuries. |
