My take is you can't turn a team into a superbowl contender after one off season.

Has nothing to do with being a SB contender. This team isn't competing period. It looks in dissarray almost as bad as the Spurrier and Zorn tenures here. We get our proverbial ass kicked by Carolina after a bye week and an extra week to prepare. Then we get shutout in Toronto of all places. You can rebuild and still be a competitive team. Norv was rebuilding also, but remained pretty competitive for the most part. Same with Schotty. Sorry Charlie, but we have seen this scenario a few too many times in the last decade or so. You already have teammates chewing each other out, the fingers are starting to point. Pretty soon the coaching staff loses the lockerroom, etc and you are toast. IF Shanny doesn't rectify the situation he deserves to be thrown out on his keister. This isn't about the W/L column per say anymore, it is about getting a real football team on the field on Sunday.

Okay, just curious: Who did you guys want? Because I don't remember the choices being that plentiful. And now I'm looking around and wondering who would come here if The Crazies actually got their way and Shanahan either resigned or was fired?

For me it wasn't who we passed on, it was more that it was just another Snyder-type hire. Bring in another older, flashy re-tread with past accolades... It's just not how winning happens in today's NFL...

I voted for the Hot Seat, and I can't believe anyone in here wouldn't vote the same. Hot Seat doesn't mean getting fired, it means being held accountable for doing a job. The players are overpaid, but so is Shanny in my opinion. That goes for his entire coaching staff. The team looks in total disarray, being unprepared and at times looking totally lost on the field. That is inexcusable for a guy that is getting such a fat salary. It is almost like a Wall St CEO that gets a fat bonus for letting his company go down the tubes. Yeah, you get a ton of folks that want the CEO to burn in hell, but oh no, don't put the coach on the little ole hot seat. Right now the Shanaplan doesn't exist, and he needs to feel the heat.

It is all about Snyder and marketing. The guy is a genius. EVen when his teams suck, he can get the fans to keep coming back for more. I agree with your comment for the most part about hiring Shanny in the first place. He needed to court one of the best OCs or DCs in the game, preferably younger, like when they got Norv. A young guy will be all fired up, and eager to win and prove himself. Shanny might just be there to collect a paycheck and get the hell out of town when the shit hits the fan. At this point he is even going to have to throw his son under the bus if he wants to truly retain his position in the not to distant future. I am not so sure he is going to do that. Do you really think Snyder isn't going to notice the empty seats come December if this situation isn't fixed? IF we only win a couple more games this season, but look like a real football team I have no problem keeping him around for his contract, but damn, the team looks in total disarray like it was under Zorn, and you are paying this bum how much? Shanny and co need to be put on the hot seat. They need to be held accountable. This is fast becoming a joke. Strike that, it is a joke, a very bad one.

As far as Kyle goes- I think if he is as big of a problem as he appears to possibly be right now, you've got wonder if nepotism will end up really hurting this team. The reason I say that is because, if your Daddy fires you, are you ever going to land another impactful job in the NFL? He would forever be the guy who was so bad that his own father kicked him to the curb.... Is Mike really going to do that to his son? I doubt it.

I agree that is why I voted for the hot seat. Ultimately he is responsible. if KS isn't getting it done with the play calling then he should fire him.... and the same goes with the defense. I hate the 3-4......wish we would switch back to the 4-3.... QB is the top priority that should get addressed along with offense lineman CB & LB. A dominate DL would be nice also.....

Yeah that is why I think both Shannys will be thrown out as a tandem or more likely leave on there own. This whole thing is Mike getting his big payday and Kyle being groomed for being a HC. The plan isn't going so well there, and Mike has plenty of $$$$$$$$$, so they even might take the money and resign after this year. Spurrier did it. If you don't get an improvement soon they are going to lose the lockerroom, and that is all she wrote.

Based on gameday performances, especially on offense, it looks like coaches have already lost the locker room to a significant degree. It will be interesting to hear what the players say, as I assume at least a couple/few will start commenting soon. Maybe the decision to bench Rex is part of it although I think Tana was the most vocal in his support of Rex.

...my intuition the family dynamic, nepotism as someone finally said, is the bigger deal. I suspect Kyle has the personality of the wet dish towel...kinda formless and starts to stink after a few days. Players are questioning the whole damn thing.

Lack of talent is killing us moreso than coaching. OL is ass, and the QB is still adjusting to the speed of the game(and thinks he's Rothelisberger when he isn't), and our WRs either suck or are not yet ready. It's difficult to pin the blame on exactly who is at fault for the bad play results. Only thing I'll say for sure is that Kyle is scared to use screens.

And nepostism? Clinton Portis and Snyder were all luvy duvy and no one cared.

Listening to Kevin Sheehan and I have to agree. It isn't easy to be patient, but he brings several points to bare.
The most important that the past off-season made much progress as to the squad makeup. Much younger...more talented. BUT it would take at least one more offseason of doing a similar job (to see some good results) of evaluating who we have.....letting some go....seeing what vets need to go,etc.
AND we have like 9 or 10 picks coming, a significant amount of $$ under the cap.
Soooo....we should be able to have a great draft and do some damage in the FA market as well.
Rebuilding is not for the weak........ To many years of Vinnie..
