I know the guy has ahd issues but I never get the feeling that he is a "real" problem like so many other guys in the league. If I am not mistaking he doesn't tend to get penalties for stupid things, he doesn't celebrate like a complete jack-ass every time he scores, he doesn't get pissy(lately) about getting the ball. I think actually comes off as a guy who actually really cares about the game and his team but just has some mis guided thoughts. I'd wonder most about what his locker-room affect is. Can you imagine a healthy Coles and Moss on the same field at one time. Jesus that would be sweet. cpayne5 01-07-2005, 04:04 PM I was sitting (http://skinsfan.us/images/seats.jpeg) near the tunnel that Moss went down at the end of the game Sunday. He was really getting it from the fans (including myself :D), but didn't really say anything back (like I would have expected). In an interview, he claimed that he left the field so that he wouldn't react in an even worse way out on the field. TheMalcolmConnection 01-07-2005, 04:20 PM I will say that if anyone can build a person's character, it's the squad of Joe Gibbs. I still don't like him, but it would indeed be sweet to see Coles and Moss on the same field (provided Moss can keep his attitude in check). memphisskin 01-07-2005, 04:47 PM I'm sick of the "trade Portis, trade Arrington" talk. We made significant committments (i.e. huge signing bonuses) to both players. Portis didn't go from being a 1500 yd back to bust in one season, and while I wouldn't mind a big back to move the chains can we please move past all the "return to Riggo talk?" Look, with no passing game Portis has shown that he can move the chains. At no point should any 205 lb back be asked to consistently move the pile, that's what fullbacks and the 240 lb backs do. Portis is a game breaker, and I think we've pigeonholed Gibbs offense as one that is only successful with a Riggins carrying the ball. Check the record, Riggins didn't play on the '87 title team, or the '91 title team, instead we had backs more like Portis (T. Smith and Byner). My biggest beef with that talk remains that it presupposes that the critic knows more about Gibbs' philosophy than Gibbs. I can't imagine anything further from the truth. This was a particularly frustrating season for everyone, but I guess it proves that there are no quick fixes. It's a process, one that finally seems to be firmly on track. Instead of searching the free agent lists for the next big splash/bust, we should turn our eyes inward and look to develop the guys on our roster. Our defense should have proved that anyone can succeed if given the chance, look at the job Wilds did in the last game of the year or the effort that Lemar Marshall showed in replacing Lavar Arrington. I think we have enough stars, enough guys making big bucks, what we need to do is spend more time developing the talent we have on our roster already, refining our system and keeping the roster as stable as possible. It's a crime that there are only 8 guys left from the 2000 roster, and there's absolutely no justification for it. It's not like we were a juggernaut and got poached by other teams, no our front office policy was to throw the baby out with the bathwater and each year our team has had a different look than the year before. Our offense was horrendous this year, but to say that bringing in one more wideout would change things is ludicrous unless we're bringing in Jerry Rice circa 1988. The one change I want this offseason is no change this offseason. We've got a top ten pick, I say select the top guy available and stop searching for Mr. Goodbar. We've got plenty of talent on this roster, I'd like to see our coaching staff maximize what we've got before we go out searching for the answer on someone else's roster. :soapbox: Daseal 01-07-2005, 04:50 PM Moss has matured A LOT over the last few years. I think he's more worried about the team now. I'm not sure how he'd fit here, and I don't know if we can handle his contract! I feel Moss is hands down the best receiver in the league, but Burress may be an easier deal to get. My favorite is someone asked a question about Ade Jimoh! MTK 01-07-2005, 04:52 PM Burress is an interesting option. He's a huge target and he can get down the field. skinsguy 01-07-2005, 05:38 PM By the skins thinking about getting "another" speed receiver makes me think that they're not too confident that Coles can get back to top form with that toe injury. It would be nice to have at least one very good speed receiver who can get open downfield. This could enhance Coles' play somewhat (taking the pressure off of him being the number one goto guy.) Kevikazi 01-08-2005, 01:03 AM I don't know about getting Moss or Burress. I think players egos will clash. How will Coles handle Moss or Burress taking over as Skins' #1 WR? MTK 01-08-2005, 01:08 PM Burress is already playing with Hines Ward, so I think he could mesh with Coles just fine. I think Moss is a real, real longshot considering our cap. |
