Mercedes-Benz buys naming rights for Superdome, home of New Orleans Saints - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7058178/mercedes-benz-buys-naming-rights-superdome-home-new-orleans-saints)

I think what's hilarious about this is Mercedes Benz putting their name on a shoddy product. If I was Benz and I was going to put their name on a stadium, I'd put it on the Cowboys or Cards, although that would probably cost more money. The Superdome recently just finished renovations from the damage from Hurricane Katrina, but like the old saying goes you can't put lipstick on a pig.

Think you might be a little too hard on the dome. They've spent a ton of dough renovating it & bringing it up to date.

Superdome is home to a recent SB champ and current SB contender.

It sheltered tens of thousands of people from a Catastrophe of near biblical proportions.

The monstrous thing is just not very attractive although it recently underwent a ton of plastic surgery.

Now that's a stadium with character.

Possibly, but that's mainly because my lasting impression of it is the squalid conditions after Hurricane Katrina. I'm sure it's definitely better now, but the question is how much better? Even if the renovations are good, it's still hard to call the Superdome a modern, state of the art stadium.

Obviously this move has more to do with all the hosting the Superdome plays, because they're going to be hosting the BCS Championship Game next year, along with the Final Four next year and the Super Bowl in 2013.

Since I live in the New Orleans area I am surrounded by folks who are upset with this. To them the place is "The Superdome," period, with no additional name needed.

God who decorated the premium ground level clubs? Archer, James Bond or Mr Roper?

I take it back, it actually looks pretty decent. Better than the Redskins bland gray concourse, and with lots of better improvements outside. I was expecting more just basic renovations, but clearly they've upgraded it.

I'm a Saints season ticket holder. It is fairly modern after the renovations, and one of the best venues I've ever attended a sporting match. I have been to over 10 professional stadiums and over 20 college or minor league stadiums. The Superdome as a venue, is at the top in atmosphere/good times as any I have visited. What it may lack in cosmetics/modernism, it by far makes up for in sheer "fun place to watch a game".
