Sean"Big Hurt"Taylor 01-06-2005, 01:20 AM I wondering if you guys think the redskins need to go after the offensive coordinator of usc trojans. do you see what he has done with bush and those receivers. imagine what he can do with portis, coles and co. we desperately need a new offensive genius that can take advantage of our talent. just think matt leinart has an average arm patrick has an incredible arm and need to work a little bit on his accuracy. Let me know what do you all think. with a high powered offense to go along with our explosive defense and folks you have the 2005 super bowl champs.
Redskins8588 01-06-2005, 01:28 AM First Ramsey's accuracy isnt that bad. After he took over for Brunell Ramsey had a 65% completion percentage, and in the games that he started he had a QB rating of 82.6, which isnt bad given it was he first 7 starts in a brand new offense.
Second, I say give Gibbs a chance to tweek the offense, I dont believe that bringing in a new O-coordinator will help. Remember we want stability and consistancy, not a turnover in personel or with the coaching staff.
skins009 01-06-2005, 03:19 AM Norm Chow is a real good coach but he is more of a west coast offense guy. Thats a different philosphy from Gibbs's one back vertical offense(at leat thats how it used to be). I would like to see somebody from the chiefs, vikings or colts staff comeover. That more similiar to what gibbs is trying to do.
itvnetop 01-06-2005, 04:01 AM He's not so west coast that the trojans base their offense around timing routes and slants... Chow's offensive philosophy is pretty complex, maximizing strengths against opponent weaknesses. SC just has the talent to make it all work- a grinding running back (White) to keep defenses honest, big and speedy receivers who run all types of routes around secondaries, tight ends who can catch forty yard bombs, and a mini-Marshall Faulk (Bush) that can take an off tackle all the way down, run a wheel route for a score, or finish a fly route designed for most speed receivers.
Much like Gibbs' offenses, Chow's all begins with the run. The playbook opens up from there and his brain is like an advanced chess game once he figures the defense out. He sees what defenses are trying to do within the first series of each game... he probably knows which part of the opposition is most easily exploited by game day. His football IQ is matched by very few offensive minds in the history of the game, but it all means nothing if he doesn't have the talent to make it happen.
If he came in tomorrow for the Skins, our offense wouldn't turn 180 that quickly. We'd definitely need more playmakers on offense- but if you have them, Chow knows exactly how to utilize them. The immediate improvement would be Ramsey's play... he's coming along well, but Chow is a quarterback's fantasy coach. He's made good quarterbacks great... developed most of them into those ready for the NFL (Young, Palmer, Leinart, McMahon, Rivers). I can only imagine how good Ramsey's vision and arm will be with Chow's instruction.
It's a risk banking on a college coach's history to succeed in the pros, but if you watch the Trojan offense- it has the feel of a the Rams of a few years back and the Colts of today. I'm pretty sure he'd be successful on this level.
Shane 01-06-2005, 04:16 AM Jiminy Christmas. So we need an offensive coordinator now. Why if old Norm Chow had been on the team from the start this year, we would have had a magnificent passing game, the pass protection would have been reminiscent of the Hogs', Portis would have gained perhaps 2,000 yards - it would have been great! So, yes, step aside Mr. Three Super Bowl Trophy, Hall of Fame coach, step aside for Norm Chow from USC!
JoeRedskin 01-06-2005, 06:31 AM Well, maybe we don't NEED an offensive coordinator, but, just as Gregg Williams gave Gibbs a valuable assistant who could build modern defense, maybe an innovative OC would help. Remember, in his first stint, Gibbs had an OC (Henning) who helped him to his first Superbowl. I have been hearing good things about Chow and think he probably would be a good fit for Joe - someone to help kickstart Joe's own creative juices and apply them to the modern game. As for the fact that Chow has had college success and no pro experience, I guess I think that applies more to head coaches than coordinators. With Joe as HC, I don't think Chow's lack of pro experience would be a significant factor.
To me, hiring someone like Chow is a win win for both Gibbs and Chow. Gibbs gets a new, fresh brain to pick and Chow gets pro experience.
Wow... I've convinced myself of what a great move this would be!! Someone get Danny boy to fire up ol' Redskins 1 and sign that man up!
Daseal 01-06-2005, 07:47 AM I've been harping for an offensive coordinator for a bit. I think Gibbs deserves another year, but I wouldn't cry if we decided to get a coordinator by any means.
I would also like someone with NFL experience if we go after them.
cpayne5 01-06-2005, 08:27 AM I don't think a new offensive coordinator will come aboard. "Offensive Advisor" would most likely be the title of an offensive guy brought in.
Sean"Big Hurt"Taylor 01-06-2005, 08:29 AM I think you guys have me misunderstood. I know the Gibbs has one 3 super bowls with his offense in tact. He's been away from the game a pretty long time. We all know the the game is not the same the players are bigger and much faster than back in the early 90's. All I'm saying is that the offense need some changing I mean the offense did look terrible at the beginning of the year it did change towards the end. We need someone who can use our talent wisely. Portis is not a big grind it out kind of a back. Portis has to be used like Bush is used at USC(chow). I mean portis is probably the fastest back in the league and it is a shame that we can't use him correctly. we do have betts to do that but what if we had portis breaking those homeruns on opposing defenses week in and week out. Like I said we have a super bowl defense and we can't give them over 20 points a game to win the game. I's convinced Chow is the man to do that. He's very smart and uses talent well. All you know have talent we just don't have the person to use it. I did not say get rid of gibbs but give him some help.
It's worth discussing but I really doubt a coordinator will be brought in.
