I'd be interested to see if there is any team in the league willing to overpay for him. I seriously doubt it.
One thing I have seen is that, on a young player's first go around in free agency (Dre Bly, Duane Starks, Dexter Jackson) some team WILL over pay.
If Smoot hits the open market, he will probably get the pay day he is asking. Whether or not he will live up to the payday is the next question.

He is trying to recoup money from having been paid crap for his whole career. Hes not worth what hes asking, but he was worth more than we were paying him

Smoot and his agent think that his market has been set by the Dre Bly and Champ Bailey contracts...however, I would expect corners' salaries to actually decrease due to the recent rule changes. If there ever was such a thing as a shutdown corner, they will not continue to exist if the rules are enforced.

wasn't it his own fault though for what caused him to drop from a sure first rounder to the second round pick that he became and lose that guaranteed money? plus I can understand wanting to recoup some money he feels he's deserved the past couple years, and snyder isn't an owner willing to pony up that money, but with all of his "I want to be a redskin" or "I love this place", then why would he ask for a huge overpayment of his talent and hinder the team from adding a couple important peices to the puzzle? I don't know if he's being over confident in his own talent, if he's being greedy, or just getting bad advice, but he should have atleast brought a reasonable offer to the table that could be worked with and not ask for top 8 cb money when he's only in the 12-20 range in ranking of starting cbs.
