Why? He's talented, but we don't need him. Ladell Betts fits into Gibbs' system better.
We could get a lot of talent for Portis...
Think of the Herschel Walker trade.

Betts waits for his blockers..............I don't think I'd trade Portis though...
Think of the giant cap hit
Let's stop this talk right now, LOL

It wouldn't be a cap hit, because his contract wouldn't be ended. It goes to the team acquiring him.

How's this..............we trade Portis back to Denver for Champ Bailey, get a 2nd round draft pick, and Smoot becomes a free agent and Denver picks up Smoot.............
just kidding........because I don't think you can seriously consider this Bozzy......sorry...............

CC might have to give us the final verdict on this, Its not like it is in baseball , I'm 99.9% sure you still take a cap hit.

Portis' cap hit for 2005 is $2.4M.
If we trade him we'll eat $9.6M of dead cap.
In other words, it ain't happening.

Won't his salary be sent to the team that acquires him?

Fine, then make Portis the backup to Betts.
