I doubt the Giants will do anything different no matter who starts at QB.
Maybe not, but both guys bring different skill sets to the table. It at least gives the Giants some uncertainty.

Giants have had our number recently, but I don't think they're invincible. I like our chances.
'Bout time for a Week One prediction thread, isn't it?
If Shanahan remains true to the "best player" plays philosophy Grossman will be named the starter.
If the team is witness to a sham QB battle in which the better player gets benched how exactly does that benefit this "new culture" they are promoting over at Redskins Park?
If Shanahan shares the same opinion regarding who is the better player, of course.
If he doesn't see it that way, you're assuming it's a sham QB battle?

Plus the question of 'best player' is vague. Best player in Week One or best player for the 2011 season, because those are probably different answers. The better QB to start 9 days from now is probably Grossman. However, the better QB for the team as the season evolves is probably Beck because he has a higher upside, more for defenses to consider with his mobility and will only develop further with time and experience.
That's why my opinion is he will go with Beck because it will not only frame 2011 but decisions beyond. Grossman's track record is already established. He's Good Rex-Bad Rex, 275, 2 TD-0 INT one week, 137, 0 TD-3 INT and a fumble the next. That will drive Shanny crazy over 16 weeks.

I tend to think letting him play is more proof that Beck is the man. He hasn't started a regular season game in 4 years and didn't get much of a training camp this year, so he's getting his snaps to get more comfortable. That's my take.
From what Beck said on Redskins Post Game Live yesterday it seems like he thinks that's the case as well. Since according to him they said he was gonna play because he missed the snaps he would have had in the first game.

I'll admit I'm not an expert QB evaluator like a lot of people on this site but I just dont see much difference in Beck & Rex. Sure Beck is a bit more mobile but its not that big a difference. I could see needing to plan differently if the Skins had a choice of starting a Vick-style QB or a pocket passer who do totally different things but that's not the case here. Heck, I'm sure Shanny will do anything different with the O no matter who starts.

Meh, maybe, maybe not. I think they just wanted to get Beck some extra work. That's about as far as I would look into that. If that was truly the case why was the starting OL out there?
Yeah, I changed that stance a bit after I made that comment. Usually 1 + 1 = 2, but not so much in Shanny's case. I like how he basically conceals and misdirects so much stuff that nobody really knows on what he's going to do. It's refreshing, and the exact same thing Bellicheat does.

The mobility factor is a pretty big one IMO. Rex has none, Beck has a lot.
With Beck in there they can run the bootleg play-action stuff and the Giants will actually have to respect it. It also helps sell the stretch running game too.
Rex is a statue in the pocket, Beck adds a lot more athleticism and can make plays outside of the pocket on the run.

Stretch play right. Stretch play left. Play action bootleg.
There is no uncertainty at this level of football.
Our coaches and the opposing coaches have seen everything.
They are not re-inventing the wheel.
Not naming a starter until the last minute has little to do about trickery or game planning. More to do about the fairly equal but different types of Qb's. It is a position competition until the last play in preseason.

How does Grossman prove "best player" both played very close in terms of qb rating (not sure where Beck's ended up after yesterday) and Beck fits the offensive scheme better than Grossman does.
Personally, I think it is a push as to the "best player" so then you add in intangibles and it gets even muddier.
I don't see the choice proving or disproving the "new culture"
But at least we have a new qb argument that can rage on since JC is gone. yay :(
