Jim McMahon, other former players sue NFL over concussions - ESPN (http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/6874906/jim-mcmahon-other-former-players-sue-nfl-concussions)

I doubt this will drum up much interest, but I think it's interesting. I do tend to believe that in the older days the NFL certainly didn't discourage players from leading with their head, and I'm sure they had to know it wasn't good for the brain either. These ex-players might have something on their hands here.

"The other plaintiffs include offensive tackle Joe Thomas, 26, who left the league in 2010 after five seasons with the Cleveland Browns" -

Does anybody remember reading about this? I was completely unaware Joe Thomas doesn't play for the Browns anymore. I don't even remember reading anything that says he retired. And I don't see how he's played 5 seasons since he was drafted in '07.

Must be a different Joe Thomas.

Must be a different Joe Thomas.

I think they mixed their facts up. There's no other offensive tackle named Joe Thomas who played for the Browns from 2005-2010, especially considering JT was drafted in 2007 and is still playing.

I am not surprised. Although the new CBA does address some retired player issues, it did not go as far as the players wanted.

It seems to me that this is something that the NFL can resolve out-of-court with $$$ and new safety rules. But it will be interesting to see how this plays out. There are some potentially large ramifications for all levels of the game at play here.

I pretty much agree with your post, although I do think how much money was devoted to the retirees in the CBA was a big step forward. As far as the lawsuit goes, depending on how much evidence the retirees have, it will probably be settled out-of-court, since the NFL probably doesn't want to take its' chances with a judge.

Someone must have made an error. JT is still playing. Seems it's been corrected now in the article.

Interesting that Mike Furrey is on that list too. Remember the Mike Furrey era in DC? Almost as memorable as the Bobby Wade era

I agree with you. Nobody forced these guys to play football and now they are blaming the NFL for their problems, I just dont buy it.

The suit alleges the NFL knew as early as the 1920s of the harmful effects of concussions but concealed them from coaches, trainers, players and the public until June 2010. It also names helmet-maker Riddell, the NFL's official helmet supplier.

see cigarette lawsuits...It's bad for you? Who...knew?
I regret that these players have, I am sure horrible side effects, they continued to play even though they knew there may be a price to pay....sorry.
