Look it's not that hard to understand. It's almost like there's some kind of macho denial. It's very simple.
Ok- let me give one simple example of how it affects a team:
Superstar Free agent Dick sees a team- that he heard from the MEDIA- was an upcoming team that has a superstar (also based on opinion). And then several other free agents also join because of the same reason. That's how you get the offseason that the eagles got.
If that is too intangible for you to grasp, I'm sorry but...

I mean really. Yes, individual players can be bothered by what the media says about them. And some cower from it. Others get motivated by it. But at the overall team level, whether Colin Cowherd says we'll go 2-14 or Ross Tucker says we'll go 10-6 is ultimately not a big deal.
And you really think the Eagles built their offseason because of what the media was saying about the team? You don't think maybe, just maybe, players talk to each other, agents to general managers, coaches talk to players? I mean if it's just the media why would Bruce Allen pick up the phone to call Josh Wilson's agent? Why wouldn't he just start a blog and have it republished on the Washington Post's site?

I knew it would be just be too intangible for you to really understand. And I didn't say it was the sole reason why the eagles had this kind of offseason. But to deny that the opinion of the fans and media has an impact is just that- Denial.

I think that I'm about to go.to Bed Bath & Beyond. I need baking sheets, some kitchen utensils, and a new gadget or two. A good deal on a fry pan or knife might entice me to spend a few extra dollars. Also realized that I have no clue where my wine glasses are.

Yeah, you basically said the Eagles free agents joined the Eagles because of what they heard in the media.
And no one's denying the opinion of the fans and the media. But it's just opinion.

Ok even if you thought I said it was the only reason why- I just said it wasn't. And I just updated my post. It's not the opinion you are denying. It's the impact of the opinion.
The only thing that I can compare this to that you cam relate to is like you saying money won't change me I'll still be the same person. We are just on two different levels of thinking. I don't whose right and whose wrong. Let me say that if you think that belief and confidence have an affect - I would consider these a form of opinion. And I think it is important to have the fan base believe in a team because I believe it does affect the teams performance.

That doesn't even begin to support your earlier argument. You are saying that an "analysts" opinion on a team affects their performance (negatively at that).
Sit back and think for a second and ask yourself if you really mean what you're saying.
