mlmpetert 08-13-2011, 04:00 PM I dont really care what round someone gets drafted in, if they get out preformed by later round picks that show that they too have potential i rather keep the later rounder. If Hankerson out performs Paul or Austin then he deserves to be on the roster. If theyout perform him then he should head to the practice squad in my opinion. Stallworth looked 10x better then i would have ever thought last night, and hes really not all that old. I guess i just prefer let the best man win.
I remember a bunch of people on this board were in love with DT Dre Moore coming out of Maryland in 2008. He got drafted in the 4th and went to the Bucs practice squad and a few people here (i think even me) said we should snag him off their PS and give him a roster spot. We didnt scalp him from their squad and no other team did either. He had tons of potential but has so far proven why he was drafted later then people thought he would be and ended up as a perennial PS member.
Hopefully Hankerson turns out to be a major steal. But if Paul or Austin turn out to be an even bigger steal thats cool with me too. Unfortunitly this lock out is gonna hurt a lot of players development, especially WR's which seem to take longer to learn the ropes. Just a thought of mine, im sure ill end up being wrong. PLUS its still way to early for me or anyone else to start jumping to conclusions. Hopefully Hank will prove me wrong over the course of the next 3 games
Swarley 08-13-2011, 04:20 PM By all accounts Niles Paul has been having a nice camp, if he shows up in the preseason I can't see him getting cut. Austin looks likes he's really developing into a good player too. You're right, if Hankerson is being outperformed I don't think Shanny is going to keep him.
I watch a ton of college football, and I don't recall drops being an issue for him at all at Miami. I'm hoping it's just nerves. I was really hoping he'd be a contributor for us this season.
That was one of the knocks on him coming out.
Miami Pro day: Wide receiver Leonard Hankerson was characterized as "up and down" while running routes and catching passes. "He's a bit stiff as a route-runner and isn't as fast as he timed at Indy," the scout said. Hankerson, according to the scout, also "dropped a few" passes - a problem the Miami receiver had struggled with throughout his career and the week of practice at the Senior Bowl. Hankerson is currently the fourth rated receiver of the 2011 draft by NFLDraftScout.com. Among the teams the scout said were represented at the workout were the Atlanta Falcons, Arizona Cardinals, Baltimore Ravens, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, New York Giants, New York Jets, New England Patriots, Oakland Raiders, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Diego Chargers, Seattle Seahawks, St. Louis Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Tennessee Titans. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

GusFrerotte 08-13-2011, 04:37 PM Matty,
If Donte really has an overall great preseason for us, would you cut/trade him if Hankerson happens to stink it up? I think if he continues to have a great preseason we might as well keep him for the season.

I don't know about Matty but Dirtbag would cut Donte just because he reminds him of Galloway. Some might think it's my moral compass (see Jerome Mathis signing a few years ago) but ironically the Stallworth off the field thing was a tragic accident. I just don't think he's ever been productive enough to justify cutting a young player and hoping someone doesn't snatch him off the practice squad. Personally right now I want to see
Moss-Armstrong-Gaffney-Hankerson-Austin-Banks
Of course it's looking like Hankerson could easily be replaced with Paul.
diehard 08-13-2011, 05:17 PM Game replay is on NFLN right now...
Terpfan76 08-13-2011, 05:45 PM Hankerson will make the roster. He has way too much talent not to even if he does drop some passes. After this season or perhaps the next, that's a whole other story but you have to think that unless he totally bombs and I mean spectacularly, he'll make the roster. Besides, they've kept Malcom Kelly around haven't they?

Looking at the scouting report, you can tell some of his routes weren't as crisp as others. Even Joey T. commented on that fact and even broke down a play by Stallworth and compared the two routes.
He's not going to the practice squad being a 3rd rounder. No way, no how, so lets just stop that foolish talk right now. He's a lock to be on this squad just as Moss and Gaf are.
tc2deuce 08-13-2011, 06:31 PM let's just hope Hankerson is not the next Devin Thomas!

I guess the real question is - Is Armstrong a lock? I though AA looked good enough last night, picking up where he left off. BUT - Say, in the next 3 weeks, Armstrong barely out performs Hankerson but Paul strongly outperforms Armstrong & Hankerson. Do Paul and Armstrong stay? Paul and Hankerson? Can Hankerson, Austin & Paul all make the team (cutting Armstrong & Stallworth)?
BTW - I know he had a rough game, but Aldrick may yet make a play. I recently read an article (that I can longer find) that he was an exceptional route runner and was getting good separation b/c of his technique. If he gets past the jitters, he might be a solid player for years to come. All the same, I think he is practice squad material this year.
