To Portis 40K is chump change but to Ohalete it's a big deal. You sign a contract you better fulfill it. It's a shame Portis had to be taken to court to pay what he owes.

I'd certainly be a little pissed if I were Ohalete. After all, he didn't have to give Portis the number at all. He was the veteran on the team, and it would be a little galling to me if some young punk who just signed a mega-million dollar contract came prancing into camp and expected me to simply kowtow to his every wish and hand over a jersey number I had earned the hard way. Now this punk signs a contract to pay me $40,000 for the number, and he doesn't pay up? That's another, even bigger slap in the face! You're damn right I'm gonna sue the little bastard!
Portis must think that it was all just a big joke, but Ohalete obviously doesn't, and he has a legal right to that $40,000. Portis needs to pay up, or a lot of people-- including Redskins fans and even players in his own locker room-- will never respect him ever again, no matter what he does on the field while wearing that No. 26.
If they put a deal on paper Portis definitely needs to cough up the green.
I can't believe all this drama over a number, jeez.

Portis should (and eventually will) cough up the dough for the number...

that would have been a bit pretentious, basically saying, i'm gonna take your number, and if you get cut, i won't pay you because there won't be a need to...going into camp, iffy looked like he would be retained as a backup...

I wish we still had Ohalate honestly. He was a well rounded solid player. I'm still a bit suprised we cut him.

When you're talking $40k, I don't think it's that pretentious, especially since it is now the reason why he feels he shouldn't have to pay at this point.
Turns out Ohalete didn't want to play ball the Gregg Williams way. He was told in meetings how he could improve, but he never made the effort to do so - basically ignored the coaches's suggestions. He was OK, but not good enough to keep around while acting like that.
