Giants?
You're on a roll today. Replace with Packers, Saints and Falcons and you'd be right. Giants have a lot of holes, plus injury issues (Steve Smith), the Osi issue that could linger all season and of course, their annual problem of turning against Coughlin and choking the last month of the season away. It's been a real problem for many years.
skinsfaninok 08-03-2011, 05:52 PM Packers. Saints. Giants. The class of the NFC this year.
The Eagles have moved themselves into the discussion with a strong free agency period. And, like the Saints, they should be at this level for two or three years. So they very easily could win the SB with this core. Maybe not this year, but they'll be in it for awhile.
But yeah, a one win increase over last year is probably a ceiling for that team. And that's only obtainable because the NFC West is on the schedule. I see this team doing worse than 4-2 in the division this year.
9-7 would be somewhere around my expectation level for them. But they will make the playoffs this year.
Giants? I dont see it, they have ELI still

Giants always tend to sneak out of nowhere (like the year they won the SB). They always seem to start on a losing streak or have a losing record the first couple of games, and then they turn it on and make the playoffs. I know at least in one of these situations, we've been the team they beat that sparks their come back :(
Lotus 08-03-2011, 05:58 PM Even with Watkins and Harris, Philly still has some problems on the OL. After losing Stewart Bradley their linebacker corps is not the best, either.
The Eagles will be good but I'm not going overboard.
Defensewins 08-03-2011, 06:23 PM I think some are underestimating what 3 great CB's and a great defensive coaching staff can do, and Philly traditionally has a great defensive coaching staff. Their offense does not have to be great every game for them to win games.
It will be difficult to throw on them and they will load up the box and blitz all day.
Yes they have spent large in FA, but one thing that kind of goes unnoticed in the criticism of Philly is they had 11 draft picks this year thanks to smart trades (cough)....and they picked up another 2nd rounder for next year for Kolb. They have 10 draft picks in 2012.
When we (Redskins) went nuts in FA in the past we also combined it with giving away valuable Draft picks for more veterans. Phiily is not doing that, in fact they are adding more and more picks for the future.
Philly is not giving away their future to get the players.

Thats the weakness for the Eagles and the only reason the Redskins have a chance against them. Granted a great D-Line can do many things for you but if the linebackers can't find the ball carriers you can run on people all day. With the Eagles though the question will be if you can keep the game close enough where you can continue running the ball rather then play into their hands on defense by trying to throw against their pass rush and secondary.
The O-Line, yeah it's a bit of a problem but it's not nearly as bad as people think. Theres not a single guy that I now look at up front and say "oh thats a weakness. No one is worse then solid in their projected starting 5 of Peters-Herremans-McGlynn-Watkins-Harris. Sure Peters might be overrated but thats it. Actually I say with the Harris signing they've all but fixed the starting front 5 and if Justice is a backup thats not a bad deal.
Also on the chemistry front I don't think they've really added that many players where chemistry is a concern. We know NA is going to play elite shutdown football. Young is a backup, Brown is a backup, Babin is a temporary starter whos being paired with his old line coach, Jenkins can get up to speed by the end of camp, DRC is a nickel right now. Harris is the only real concern and that might only hurt them for a week or two and even then they have Justice to back him up.
Now I don't know how they're going to do in the playoffs and a lot of that will depend on Vick continuing to grow as a passer, but as far as the regular season is concerned I'm confident they'll dominate.
warriorzpath 08-03-2011, 06:34 PM I'm glad that one of the Eagles have annoited themselves to be the Heat of the NFL.
To literary meet that expectation with the skill-level of Lebron and Wade, 9 (two-fifths of the Heat starters) defensive/offensive starters need to be All-Pro at their positions. And considering Bosh, 4 (one-fifth of the Heat starters) other defensive/offensive starters need to be at the Pro-Bowl level.
If you're keeping count that's 9 All-Pro starters and 4 Pro-Bowlers. If the Eagles have an equivalent of that right now, then I guess for the other 31 NFL teams, it might be better off that the lockout is reinstated.

Well, they fired their Def. Coordinator from last year and have a new staff. On top of that, they are changing their defensive philosophy along with their staff. Nnamdi was necessary b/c Asante is not strong in the def. their going to be playing (In the new defense he will only be as good as Rogers was for us ;) ). They are a small, quick team that can put up points in a hurry. Last year they needed to b/c their defense allowed 24 or more points in 11 games.
While I think chemistry only matters when its very bad or very good, there are a lot of parts that need to come together for Philly to win it all. Particularly on D.
