Shanahan: 2 time Super Bowl winner. Spurrier: Thought training camp served no purpose. Shanahan: Can turn no name running backs into all-stars. Spurrier: Had like 2 different pass protections - total. And both sucked. Shanahan: Took a crappy QB in Jake Plummer out of a bad situation in AZ and turned him into a decent game manager. Spurrier: Doomed Patrick Ramsey's career from the start. Now Ramsey is nothing but a journeyman, can't even settle in as a backup. See where I'm going with this? mooby: I am with you on the comparison until the very last line. Patrick Ramsey was destined for journeyman status in the NFL from the start. Steve Spurrier did not consign him to that status... mooby 07-30-2011, 11:24 PM mooby: I am with you on the comparison until the very last line. Patrick Ramsey was destined for journeyman status in the NFL from the start. Steve Spurrier did not consign him to that status... :laughing- That's up for debate. But I won't debate you on that one, because I never watched Ramsey in college so I wouldn't have had the slightest clue if he was doomed to fail by the time he stepped on a college football field. GusFrerotte 07-31-2011, 01:53 AM The Paris Hilton of the NFL. Exactly, but it is more than just the Cowboys or Skins. Look at all the other dysfunctional teams. They get free press. It is the new thing in marketing, just generate controversy, good or bad, as long as you get your name or product out there with some cheap publicity. Cowboys suck, Skins suck, and the Raiders under AL Davis suck, but get big press and always have full houses on gameday. You have the Lions always under the blackout threat because folks in the Detroit area aren't going to part with their hard earned cash so quickly for some shitty football. Plus with the winless streak over, the Lions don't generate much hype or controversy. Jones, Davis, or Snyder aren't dumb, they know the easier route to making $$$$$$$$$$, and that isn't winning unfortunately. mooby 07-31-2011, 01:59 AM Exactly, but it is more than just the Cowboys or Skins. Probably should've done some research before you threw the Raiders in with your statement. The Raiders have sold out 1 home game each of the past two seasons, meaning that they've had 14 blackouts compared to 2 sellouts in just the past two years. saden1 07-31-2011, 02:10 AM Probably should've done some research before you threw the Raiders in with your statement. You would think Raiders not selling out is common knowledge. mooby 07-31-2011, 02:29 AM You would think Raiders not selling out is common knowledge. You would indeed, but nobody needs to check facts to support their argument nowadays. I'm curious to know if he knows that the Raiders were dead last in average home attendance last season. Mhm. Sounds like that whole good/bad publicity sells tickets idea only works if you're the Redskins or Cowboys, even though it's common knowledge nowadays that even the Redskins season ticket waiting list isn't what it used to be simply because we're tired of supporting a losing team year after year. I even think there's some partial truth to the conspiracy theory that the Redskins knocked down the upper endzone seats to avoid having to answer questions about why their 200k waiting list didn't want to buy 5000 seats in the upper endzone. But, hey, the "reality" is that we're trying to drum up excitement and publicity by having Shanny start Beck or Grossman at quarterback this season. That'll do the trick. sportscurmudgeon 07-31-2011, 12:25 PM Exactly, but it is more than just the Cowboys or Skins. Look at all the other dysfunctional teams. They get free press. How far back in history are you going to find the Raiders playing to full houses every week? Same question for the Skins who probably have NEVER sold out a game in FedEx. skinsfan69 08-01-2011, 08:47 AM We're not going 6-10 for another 2 years. I think the D will be vastly improved this year and we'll be more consistent on offense. with beck and grossman that's highly possible. Longtimefan 08-01-2011, 09:36 AM I think, just gut instinct, Rex will be our day one starter. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but if it's Beck I'll be pulling for him as I imagine all Skins fans will Good to hear you say that. If John Beck is fortunate enough to actually win the QB competition and be announced the day one starter, there will be no pressure on him because so many have already predicted nothing but doom and gloom for the guy. The pressure will be on MS to make it work, he has publicly raved about Beck while many have been critical of his judgement. I support both the coach and whoever wins the QB battle and will be very interested in seeing what the end will be.
