And I can think of one big reason this story could have been invented and leaked to the media. With Manning as part of the antitrust suit against the NFL, he may have the legal standing to hold up the CBA. So somebody (not Peyton) probably started this rumor on purpose to put last minute pressure on the owners. I doubt that would accomplish much, just as I doubt there's any credence to it. But I could definitely see either side resorting to some funny tactics now that we're at 11:59 pm in the negotiating process.
